Is it wrong to decide not to have children? And..how to deal with parents desperate to be grandparents?

An update–she sent me a text today apologizing for the pressure. She said she just loves us (her kids) so much that she doesn’t want me to miss out on that experience. I understand what she’s saying. There is something so special about having children that I can’t even begin to understand. I thanked her for her concern and for letting DH and I work this out on our own.

Puzzleannie–that’s exactly what we’re trying to do. We’re not saying no to adoption, but just not right now. Thanks for your advice!
Fulton Sheen said that everyone will be called before God and asked where there children are. He meant that everyone is called to have children, whether spiritual or physical or both and to try to get them to heaven. Love begets you know.

So if adoption doesn’t seem to be the way God is calling you, then ask him to show you your ‘children’ and what you should do with them or for them.
There’s an old Fred McMurry movie called “Follow Me Boys.” It was set back during the war. **Spoiler Alert! **Any way the new single guy in town was trying to score points with a popular woman and became a Boy Scout leader. Eventually, they married and she found out she couldn’t have children. He looked at her and said, “Honey, we have 15 boys out here that need us.” or something like that. Eventually a Widower died and his teenage son needed a home and they took him in (as well as continued to run the Boy Scouts.)

Also, I want to tell you about a dear friend of mine. When he married he and his wife found out they could not have children of their own. They adopted one boy. However, my friend, too, loved the outdoors and camping so for about 30 years he worked with our Scout Troop. He was a wealth of knowledge of the outdoors, raising preteens and teens and turning them into men and Eagle Scouts. Jim died Memorial Day weekend camping with us. Every kid that came through the troop for those 30 years was touched by him. Educated on something by him. And loved by him. And it sure would seem strange if any of them did not love him back.

Maybe, a life helping youth would be to your liking. And who knows, God may give you that special opportunity to bring someone into your home who really needs you. While a door may seem closed, there are so many that remain open. I hope you find the one God wants you to go through, soon. Peace be with you!
