Is it wrong to end a friendship with a person who denounced Jesus Christ?

Well, I’m 16 years old, and I was seeing this boy. I broke up with him because he didn’t respect me, and he was pressuring me into having sex. Well, I got to be friendly with his best friend. We would all hang out around school together. This guy made some seriously wrong comments about Jesus Christ that made me really uncomfortable, and he would post poetry about how he didn’t believe in God, Jesus, and the Catholic Church on his MySpace. He went to Church and all to please his mother, but you could tell he did not want to be there at all. He was stalking my best friend.

Do you think it would be wrong for me to end my friendship with this boy?

Hi Jeanne,

Depends on if your friend knows your position and beliefs in the Church and in Jesus Christ. If he knows you’re strong in your faith and is disrespecting your faith to be mean, then he’s no friend. If he doesn’t know your position, you might point out to him your beliefs and maybe help him understand who Christ is and maybe help bring him back to the Church.

ps…that stalking your friend sounds kind of creepy. Might want to stay away from him if he’s doing weird things like that…

There was a big nasty ordeal with the school, there was a restraining order involved.

If it’s uncomfortable to be around anyone, you shouldn’t be with them. 🤷 Or you could try to talk to him and let him know that you’re offended when he says this stuff. That is, if you like this guy.
