Your link in post # 33 led to another post as opposed to anything the Church teaches.
Edwest, you stated the following:
If it’s a sin to do it yourself, why watch someone else do/sing it?
If this were true, then reading the Bible would be impermissible because it includes sin. Are you saying that you want corroboration that the Church does NOT believe that reading the Bible is sinful?
Please clarify what you would like from me and concerning what issue – I cannot respond to a leaf fluttering to and fro in the wind.
Go ahead. Give all of us your criteria for what is good or bad for movies and TV. You can add music if you like. Apparently, you have the cogent standard in hand.
I will limit my discussion to what is impermissible to consume.
What is impermissible in all cases? Gratuitous violence and pornography, as per Church teaching.
If an individual’s conscience tells him not to consume a particular piece of art, then he should not. But short of pornography and gratuitous violence, there are few – if any – things that I would say are morally unacceptable for every person to consume.
I personally believe there are no gray areas, and we are not talking about the Bible here in terms of what it contains. I ask that you limit yourself to current “secular entertainment.”
Then you cannot make statements that apply equally to the Bible and secular entertainment without justifying a distinction in the application of the criteria.
I note with some delight (I am sure you know why) that even when asked, you refuse to provide any information whatsoever that would actually
help people. God forbid they actually know how to behave! It is indeed much easier to deplore a state of affairs and to say that we are all slithering in our den of sin without actually offering a concrete explanation of what it means to get out of it.
