Where i live, we don’t have gun period. If you are a hunter, you are allow but only certain type and they must be kept luck always.

I cannot advise you but speaking for me, i have full trust in God and i don’t feel the need to have one.

I recall a story from a women from Pakistan when her brother tried to kill her with a gun since she refuse to give up her believes in Jesus and get back to Islam. She open her eye about half hour later and she saw a hand blocking the gun. Finally her brother gave up and throw her out instead.

God is the boss and nothing can happen to you unless he will it. If you stay under God’s grace and his peace of order, i feel that you are in good hand and nothing to fear. If God will something for you to experience, then you must trust that this is a necessity for your soul.

Anyway, i pray for you to follow God’s will

Blessings and love!

I find it fascinating how people find it perfectly normal to collect items whose primary purpose is to be used for killing. I guess this issue is very context specific. :o

Guns owned by law abiding citizens are used to protect and defend the innocent.

The police cannot possibly get there in time.

So, the actual first responders are the armed law abiding citizens.

In Norway, none of the visitors to the island had any kind of defensive weapons, and more than ninety innocent people were slain as the nutjob shooter could take his time and stalk and kill people who had no means of escaping.

Do the reading … the police will take too long to arrive, but even one law abiding citizen with a weapon can stop the shooter in seconds.

Do the reading … there is a definite link between mentally unstable people taking drugs that are SSRI’s who become so detached from reality that they actually feel comfortable shooting innocent civilians … and the only way to stop them is their being confronted by an armed law abiding citizen … in some cases, the law abiding citizen does not even have to fire a shot to stop the nutjob.

Do the reading … the shooters deliberately plan their attacks for months … picking places where they know there will be no defensive weapons … there are even signs posted for their convenience in picking targets … “this is a gun free zone”. The notion that posting a sign stating that everyone inside is a victim just begs for some crazy person to start killing. It is downright schizophrenic … suicidal wishful thinking … to publicly say “I am defenseless; leave me alone” … We post all sorts of warning signs everywhere “beware of dog” … “protected by alarms” … but some people think that if they post some sign saying that everyone inside is defenseless … that they will be protected against some nutjob shooter.

Do the reading … on September 11, 2001, none of the airline pilots were armed … by order of the FAA … and while the pilot in command is supposed to be the “captain of the ship” … for some reason the government decided it could not trust the captain of the airliner enough to be able to defend his aircraft. The hijackers knew that the airliners would be defenseless and there also would be no skymarshalls aboard. So, the hijackers had a clear field to cause the destruction on that terrible day.

Do the reading … any country declaring their neutrality MUST be able to defend it. They cannot just state it and then sit back. Switzerland is armed to the teeth and the soldiers keep both government provided and privately purchased weapons at home. They keep their personal ammunition at home; government ammunition is now kept in an armory.

I think it’s foolish to trust that God will protect the innocent from evil people, just as some expect police to arrive in the nick of time. Does a fair and just God decide who should live and who should die? Why would God give some up for slaughter and not others? It is God’s will does not answer the questions of those who lose loved ones to evil. In the same vein, then the violence of the Crusades is just as justifiable or insane as the Holocaust or the martydom of Christians by Rome.as the will of God.

Thank you for stating what I wanted to say in a much better way than I could have.

OP,

MDFI holds training classes in Michigan & Ohio and I vouch for the quality of the instruction and the commitment of the instructors. Something to consider if you are willing to travel for a weekend.

Good professional instruction can be a real eye opener, especially to someone new to firearm ownership. Mindset, equipment selection, skills, and more : they can help with all these things. In fact, some instructors can/will even provide guns & gear for entry-level classes. That can be extremely helpful, as when you are starting out, you do not know what you do not know.

As with many topics, there is much bad advice doled out regarding firearms. Take advice, mine included, with a grain of salt until you know individuals enough to understand the validity of the advice they give.

Yes, firearms (fire lances?) were originally designed for killing other people.

From CCC.

2320 The murder of a human being is gravely contrary to the dignity of the person and the holiness of the Creator.

2321 The prohibition of murder does not abrogate the right to render an unjust aggressor unable to inflict harm. Legitimate defense is a grave duty for whoever is responsible for the lives of others or the common good.

Okay, I’ll bite. It is wrong to “get into guns.” The reason is poor grammar. The correct expression is “to develop an interest in firearms.” It is entirely acceptable to develop an interest in firearms. Some people enjoy the technical side of shooting. Other people enjoy the historical aspects. Some keep one available for self-defense. Of course, a lot of people use firearms to hunt. They are useful in the field as well. I wouldn’t venture into grizzly bear country without a firearm capable of stopping one.

While it would be unhealthy and disturbing to develop a macabre interest in them as instruments of death and destruction, I don’t know any gun owners who view firearms this way. Usually it is potential serial killers and some people who want guns banned who develop this sort of unhealthy interest in a useful tool.

One day, a candidate for Congress invited me to attend a meeting of a local NRA chapter … he needed someone to drive and it was going to be a late night.

I figgered … sheesh … a bunch of guys with guns.

It was, instead, a bunch of guys with briefcases.

Way out in rural America, guys in farmers’ jeans and work shirts showed up carrying briefcases bulging with legal papers.

It was the most erudite meeting I have ever attended.

There were copies of court cases going back to the founding of the United States.

There were early classics of the philosophers who had been read by the Founding Fathers of the United States.

They discussed the responsibilities of … all of us … to defend the innocent. The right of self defense. Elements of natural law. Maybe even Bastiat. “The Law” is an easy read, but there is a two volume set.

Amazing.

So, all I can say is … do the reading.

**Yet, Jesus said to Peter “Who ever live by the sword shall die with the sword”. **

As human, we tend to think logically because we are limited with what we see and our mind knows but in truth, if God could allow a child to be created within an old age women, how much easy it is for him to guard you.

I recommend to watch the sacred Heart of Jesus promises by EWTN. It is quite insightful when he speaks of a peace of order and what it means.

I would be nervous if i was to live a place where gun are allowed so for this i cannot give advice again but speaking for me, i know well that a gun is design to kill.

People in communist place, prayed the rosary and look at all the miracles. In Fatima, the communist came back, after having people praying the rosary, the communist dismantle once more within less then one year.

Anyway, this is up to you. Many posted, some from faith some from a human perspective and logic. Just pray and ask for guidance. Every Holy person including Jesus never made a decision before praying first.

All the best!

p.s. Joseph didn’t have a gun and yet he travel within dangerous places. He was able to keep Mary and Jesus safe always.

There is nothing wrong with owning guns, either for protection or sport. I used to shoot quite a lot a few years ago and let me tell you, the crowd you run into at competition is one of the most gentlemanly, polite groups of people you’ll ever see. It’s a good thing to have, so long as you don’t get it for sinful purposes or illegally.
Agreed. First thing the OP needs to do is check the local gun laws to see what’s legal and what’s not. I see that he’s in the Chicago suburbs, Illinois has some of the nation’s toughest gun control laws, but Chicago’s murder rate is sky high…go figure

Nothing wrong with owning guns.

People have their opinions…but the point is that if it’s legal to own, and I’m a law abiding citizen then no one has the right to take away my weapon. Simple as that.

My hand gun will stay in its safe in our room until I need it.

Never let other people persuade you otherwise.
For me, it’s like someone trying to persuade me away from my faith and the Truth.

What if I never intend on using one for killing. Darts were originally design for killing, yet millions of people enjoy throwing darts as a sport. 🤷

I have a few guns…Killing can be very fun…

Like killing deer and ducks and doves. Plus they taste great…😃

My handgun is made for killing also…but I hope I never have to use it except at the range… If it came down to some home invader or my family, then I’ll be glad I ‘collected’ something made for killing.👍

Also, the CCC states that it is not only OK, but the grave duty of someone entrusted with the lives of others to protect them using force, even if it *requires *killing the person that threatens your (or your family’s) safety.

If we logically extend that though, we can go lay dowhn in traffic because if it is God’s will to protect us, He will. We are not to test god either, which this borders on. If you are not part of a culture that embraces guns, so be it. Not owning guns does not lessen you as a Catholic any more than simply owning them does.

God also gave us reason, intellect, and prudence to use the abilities we have to care for ourselves and others. Since the Church allows for legitimate defense, owning guns for this purpose is in no way an issue.

You shall not test GOD either, so throwing yourself into the traffic isn’t a great idea, Jesus was tempted also by the devil to throw himself down from a high place.

I am talking about having faith in God and trusting him fully. Yes tragedy can still happen but nothing can happen unless God will it. If he does, he knows the big picture and what is best for our soul.

If i would live in a place where everyone could own a gun, i would look into moving but this man is the one to decide and he cans read all of our post and make a decision.

In my childhood area, some people would hunt even off season, a poor man lost his life when he went picked wild strawberries, he was taken for bear.

Gun, kill, if i would have nothing to eat, no plant at all, i certainly would consider to hunt beside this, i am not keen on this. Never i would take a pleasure to kill an animal, i cannot comprehend this.

The Apostle didn’t travel with weapon either they have faith in God.

Nothing good come from a gun, nothing.
I know many see them as a simple object or something to protect yourself and nothing wrong with it but i don’t. I don’t judge anyone for feeling this way but it would be nice that many would choose to trust God.

How many innocent people or even children has been killed accidentally. None of the owner did predict this but they have to live with this pain and sorrow for quite some time if not for ever.

Anyway, this is me but this person who posted will make the best decision for him and his family.

All the best!

p.s. Mother Teresa did her mission in a very dangerous place and she didn’t have any weapon but her prayer, crucifix and faith.

I’ve had a lifetime of never owning a gun, and recently I’m getting into guns. I’ve watched videos on safety, doing research on what kind to get, proper handling, etc. I’m soon going to buy two guns - one for each of me and my wife. I do plan on getting more training and practice time in. I met a new friend who owns guns and he allowed me to try out some of his weapons (reimbursing him for ammo) - and it was fun to shoot the 22LR’s but the higher ones were too powerful for me to handle (so I’m looking for a 22LR at this point, maybe later on graduating to a 9mm)

Currently I’m living in a relatively safe neighborhood, but there are some people in the apartment building who have done things like stealing bikes, and other minor crimes.

I’m not a violent person, but when I tell my non-gun-owner family and friends about this, they’re acting like I’m going to buy a nuclear bomb or doing something bad. I got the sense that they think I’m some violent guy because I will own guns.

My prime motivation is to protect my family at home. Concealed Carry is illegal in Illinois but that may change. I do not think I will concealed carry, and not sure about my wife, but we are open to it. I am not a violent guy, I don’t go out and get into fistfights or other scuffles like that.

So, my question is: Is it wrong to get into guns? Am I some violent guy who is horrible?
Are you looking for a rifle or handgun? The recoil of a 9mm handgun can be handled by anyone using the proper technique. It’s not that bad. For home defense you would be much better served with a 9mm than a .22 LR.

Next time you shoot, try the Weaver stance like this. It will help you control recoil and get back on target easier. It’s the most commonly taught handgun shooting method out there.

This is for a right handed shooter; just reverse it if you’re a lefty.

You shall not test GOD either, so throwing yourself into the traffic isn’t a great idea, Jesus was tempted also by the devil to throw himself down from a high place.
Isn’t that what you are doing?

**In my childhood area, some people would hunt even off season, a poor man lost his life when he went picked wild strawberries, he was taken for bear.

Sometimes women and children are raped and killed while the husband who didn’t have a gun to defend his family is forced to watch. I’ll take my chances picking strawberries.**

It is very fun to hunt. Wild meat is very healthy for you. Do you eat meat from the grocery store?

Nothing good come from a gun, nothing.
I know many see them as a simple object or something to protect yourself and nothing wrong with it but i don’t. I don’t judge anyone for feeling this way but it would be nice that many would choose to trust God.

My dinner comes from guns sometimes. It’s good. Many crimes are stopped by law abiding citizens with guns. Many lives are saved by good people with guns. I bet there were a few million Jews that wish they had guns back in the 40’s…and American guns brought about something good—the end of the holocaust and WWI and II.

How many innocent people or even children has been killed accidentally.

But isn’t this God’s will? That’s what you said earlier…God willed it. He knew what was best for their soul, right?

Anyway, this is me but this person who posted will make the best decision for him and his family.

All the best!

p.s. Mother Teresa did her mission in a very dangerous place and she didn’t have any weapon but her prayer, crucifix and faith.

Just curious, and you don’t have to answer…what country are you from?
