A prudent person in a burning room, given the choice of a crucifix or a fire extinguisher should surely choose the extinguisher. And I’m sure Pope Francis prays, as did the pontiffs before Him, but they all retain the services of the highly armed Swiss Guard.
I am sure you got my point. The invention of a fire extinguisher is surely a great divine inspiration and without question, you use this when it is at hand. But you must admit that this fire extinguisher would had never succeed to put off the fire during the attempt bombing of the tilma. The supernatural win here.
My point there are many ways of protection humanly and many spiritually.
Humanly, you have the extreme Gun and other ways (locking your door, avoiding to walk at night in dangerous place, having a dog, etc…).
Spiritually, prayer, sacred object, faith etc…
If i would live in a dangerous place, again, i would seek to move but if i wouldn’t be able to, i would try to gather a group of people and start a rosary prayer with them.
In the 70’s in Portugal, the communist try to take over again. Group of people gather in secret and it was dismantle in less then one year.

In Medjugorje, where the rosary is prayed intensely, was spared during the war.
So you cannot denial the power of prayer.
Many times, it isn’t a necessity to own a gun and people do so because they think they are cool or go into fear versus reason.
Where i live it is forbidden to have a gun in your car. If you are a hunter, there are rule and regulation. I am guessing that they need to be in their trunk during transportation.
This is a complex topic and many situation are different. At time, it might be a necessity to have a gun, but again, i find it is unnecessary for most time.
I know without a doubt that the power of God is far greater then all the weapon on earth.
A Catholic nun during the atomic bombing in Japan survived. Including Monk that practice the prayer from Fatima daily.
All the best!
