Perhaps I’m over thinking this…is it wrong to hope that God forgives others? Obviously he can, but I just keep thinking about it. Would the same apply to hoping that God doesn’t leave others? Is it He that leaves or us?

It would seem (and be, IMO) definately UN-Christian to hope that He would leave others, or would not forgive them.

We should always hope and pray for mercy for others, for their repentance and rededication to the Lord.

Why would this possibly be wrong?

Would the same apply to hoping that God doesn’t leave others?
Why would it be wrong to wish God not leave others?

Is it He that leaves or us?
How can God leave us if God is love?

I don’t think it’s wrong to hope that God forgives others, because I think when we are doing so, we are really praying that those others seek God’s forgiveness. If we were really praying that God would forgive someone seeking His forgiveness, I don’t think it would be sinful, just a misunderstanding of who God is. God never leaves us, or holds back His forgiveness, so again, when we pray for such things, I think the intention is really for that other, that THEY don’t leave Him, or that they do seek out His forgiveness.

As for your question on whether He leaves or us, see this verse:

Hebrews 13:5 DRB Let your manners be without covetousness, contented with such things as you have. For he hath said: I will not leave thee: neither will I forsake thee.

Hope he forgives, converts, transforms everyone. He never leaves anyone, so that you dont have to worry about.
If you dont hope that people will be forgiven then its because you dont love them… you might have a sister or brother living in sin and you will in your heart think: “God could not send her/him to hell… not if he loves as I do… oh Lord have mercy!”

As a Christian you must forgive and hope for forgiveness for your self and others. We all need it desperately.

I think it is a wonderful thing to hope 8and pray) that God forgives others. 🙂

I wonder if she means that hoping for God to forgive someone implies that they have done something wrong. She might be worried that such a belief about the other person might violate the command against judging others.

WE definitely leave Him through our own choice. He has promised, “I will be with you always”. Taken out of context, but true.

And/or she might be worried that she is questioning God’s judgement or in some ways helping sin if she hopes for it to be forgiven?

That’s not exactly why I asked this…
I found a Christian song that’s more to my taste of music (please don’t roll your eyes:D ) and I wanted to make sure the lyrics were appropriate, which are:
*
I hope that God forgives you
I hope that He hears you when you call
I hope that He doesn’t leave you to your own devices
When the time comes for us all

Only time will tell who was wrong and who was right
Only time will tell whose road leads to the light* (I think)

Song: Time Will Tell by Superhero

It seems okay, but I have a tendancy to overthink things. It seemed to me that the lyrics somehow implied that we should fear God not forgiving and leaving us, when it’s really us that leave Him, right?

Why do so many of us put God in a box??
What ever do you mean “put God in a box”?

I know people who have what I call “God in a box syndrome.”
Its those who believe if they pray just so, with the right formula that God must respond positively to their petition. 🙂

I hope God forgives others, and I hope others hope that he forgives me. But I am such a wretched piece of misery that I too often hope he will not forgive some jerk…and then I need to go to confession.

Sidonius, well, at least you feel that it is not very loving to hope God will not forgive somebody! 🙂 So that doesn’t make you a “wretched piece of mysery”.

And then those who DON’T feel it’s wrong - well, they are just mistaken, so they need our prayers.

Well, see, when seen from the other person’s point of view, there is always reason to forgiveness to be found.

I believe/hope so anyway!
