Is it wrong to like dragons?

No moreso than to like unicorns. They are mythological figures, nothing more. 👍
 
As long as you realize they are mythical creatures, there’s no reason to have a preference for artistic representations of them.

I had an aunt who collected elephants.
 
I used to have some dragon statues which I used when I was practicing the Occult before I became Catholic. Because of this history with them, I got rid of them.
 
Thanks guys that question has been bothering me for awhile and now more so because the girl I am trying to court brought up her dislike of them. Aight well thanks again guys!
 
I wouldn’t worry about a sin here, but I think you would profit from looking into history. Christianity almost universally has used dragons to symbolize evil, and lately the dragon is being rehabilitated in popular culture. I’ll leave it to others to argue the ramifications of that, but the main guy who articulates against this rehabilitation is Michael O’Brien and his book, A Landscape with Dragons: The Battle for Your Child’s Mind. O’Brien is noted for his opposition to Harry Potter (which is not covered in this book), and some would dismiss him for that, but I recommend reading this book and deciding for yourself.
 
Nothing wrong with liking dragons, especially considering the different kinds and how there are good and evil dragons in stories. If they were all evil, it would be uncomfortable to like them, and the criticism against them would be more legitimate, but when a story, movie, game, etc. can spin it in a way where there are noble dragons, etc, to fight the evil ones or help the good guys fight the evil people, it demonstrates a lesson in fantasy style storytelling that we as Christians can take some good from- even the beasts and monsters, in other words, nature itself opposes evil, and despite what type of creature it is, if it’s trying to do the right thing, it shouldn’t seem bad to like them for it.

With that said, however, I would concern yourself making sure you don’t become obsessed or grow attached to this sort of thing, especially if you’re enamoured with them from a religious/cultural or spiritual, real-world context, as that can lead you wayward from mere fantasy and imagination (where your fascination belongs), to actual veneration or form of idolatry, which is demonic and can provoke the attention of attaching spirits who can create a spiritual oppression in our around you and your home. If you do not attend Mass and receive the Sacraments (worthily) on a regular basis, and are not in a state of grace, even the weakest demon can attach itself to the person, place, or thing (in the case of a statue or other inanimate object). Living your Catholic faith is the best way to avoid this problem to begin with.

It’s all about context and attachment. That’s my two cents.
 
I have dealt with this question myself. One time I was touring a famous Buddhist temple in Cebu in the Philippines, and the tour guide tried to take picture of myself and my wife in front of the dragon statue prominent in the front of the temple. However, I suspected that it had something to do with pagan beliefs or practices and I refused though he insisted. However, more recently it began to seem to me that the dragon actually is a harmless mythological creature to the Chinese, like the unicorn or the griffin in the West, and I suspect there is no harm in it from this direction. (However, if it involved in New Age practices as another post seemed to indicate, it would be better to be careful if it might be tied up with such a thing.)
 
If it were objectively wrong for you to like them, there would be a nice little chapter devoted to that very thing in the CCC I think.

By the way, I don’t see one like that there.

What you are asking is, if it is okay to dwell in the imaginary.

You have no idea how this question sounds to me. But, let me say this. I think it’s fine.
Unless, you have a problem with it due to your own conscience.

Then, it would not be fine.

But, if someone is trying to tell you it’s wrong and you don’t like them with ill intent… I am guessing that whoever is making you feel this way is not respecting your freedom of conscience.

I don’t know what else to say. You should ask a priest if this is a matter that could lead to your loss of salvation.

You know yourself much better than I or anyone else does. And, I think the priest will know your situation better too if you tell him all about this.

Be careful of anyone in your life that wants to control your very thoughts if they are not harmful, and can’t even substatiate that they are harmful. That sounds controlling and dangerous to me.

I have a dragon tattoo on my back, too! A Chinese dragon. I think the Chinese dragons are supposed to be beneficial. I think they look cool. :cool:
 
PBS has at least two shows for children with dragons. Jane and the Dragon and Dragon Tales. I had the pleasure of watching both:rolleyes: while sitting for a friend’s twins who were sick.
 
Nah she wasn’t trying to control me she was just explaining her dislike of them. If that was what you were getting at I’m not sure. But anyway thanks guys this has been really enlightening for me and I have enjoyed it thoroughly. I think that I will be specific on what type of dragons I like from now on lol. thanks a bunch guys. 👍

Mine is more of a European type, But it fits my other marks which are all very western - that is -Roman 🙂 And I must agree that the Chinese dragons are way cool!😃
 
I know she does. I just hope it works out too. And thank you StrawberryJam for the info on dragons it was very difficult for me because of where I come from and all I’m in a way new to the church even though I was born Catholic. But anyway thanks guys one last time it’s great! 😃

I’m not super-keen on dragon-fixations, even if they aren’t quite the dragon from The Apocalypse.
