I have read some books about “true” ghost stories. Is it wrong of me? I have no desire to go looking for ghosts or try and contact them as I am aware of the Church’s stance on the subject.

But is reading ghost stories wrong or sinful?

Well, ghosts are just another creation of God, and if you trust that everything God created is good, then I dont think it would be a problem at all.

Honestly, I believe in ghosts, Ive seen 2 in my entire life, but havent seen one for close to 19 years now, I do not know what they actually are, but I do know they EXIST, but I dont think they are entirely on our plane of existence.

I have problems with them being demons though, as the bible says the demons are in Hell and there is NO escape from hell, so it could not be them, unless hell has a swinging door.

I dont think you have any problems reading about them, but I would not actively go searching one out, since we dont really know what they are, not that they are evil, but their intentions may not be entirely human, so we could see an action as evil or negative when it really is not.

good luck

So long as your understand that stories are just that.
STORIES.
If you want to read about supernatural happenings, there are plenty of cool saint stories that would inspire you.
Peace.

I think an apologist once said that some souls do their Purgatory on earth and these could be ghosts. I seem to notice that most ghosts are people who died in accidents or unnatural deaths. I feel that they have not fulfilled their lives on earth and so want to “achieve” something on earth but cannot do it.

I have heard stories (and that’s what they are stories which I have no idea if they are true) of haunted houses and when people confront the ghosts they say that they owed people money. When the confronter pays off their debts the ghosts leave the house. Some houses are also haunted by people who committed suicide there.

Ghosts are either: demons or souls in purgatory. Souls of purgatory is sort of self explanatory, souls that died. BUT with demons, they will be in hell. WILL be. If all demons were in hell then how do you explain possessed people in the bible, or today? Revelation says that satan WILL be cast into hell, but for now they have only been cast to earth. Ghosts cannot be conjured up. if you do that, or if a ghost seems evil, it is a demon. The gospels show clearly that demons roam the earth. If you just see them, in a dream or some other way, randomly, they could be souls of purgatory. EITHER way they are either human or angel.

No there’s nothing wrong with that and they’re not just stories there really are ghosts.

OR if somebody on THIS side of the door opened it…
Im not so sure ANY human being could interfere with any openings into and/or out of hell, somehow I cant see a human being able to do this, as Hell is something God created and once in, there is no escape…at least thats whats implied, maybe that is not accurate…who knows?

On another note, I have a problem believing God would use Hell as place to send human souls when hell was created specifically for the fallen angels. God is God, he can create anything and any place, it only seems logical he would not use one single place for 2 very different types of entities… not sure about this, but it seems likely.

This is very interesting to me. I’ve personally seen a ghost, when I was younger, and everyone in my immediate family has too. I think some people for some reason are more inclined to see the supernatural. My evangelical friends would say all ghosts are demons, but I am not so sure. Needless to say, it’s not something I mess around with – I don’t mind reading the occasional ghost story or watching a scary movie, but I would not ever willingly seek out contact with any type of supernatural spirits (other than angels, saints and God, of course!) either by using a Ouija board, a séance, tarot cards, or anything like that.

Listen to what your heart is telling you.

The legitimate way of contact with the supernatural, such as God, the holy angels and saints, is through prayer.

Souls in purgatory are on their way to heaven and therefore future saints. I pray for them every day.

You keep saying that demons can never get out. That is you just assuming, it is not in the catechism or the bible.

Well, I believe the bible does say humans cannot come and go or ‘escape’ from hell, so if we cannot, Im assuming demons cant either, that only makes sense…right? after all, it was created as their place of punishment and torment.

However if they are somehow given special treatment, something like that would make me question whether I should remain a Christian.

Of course all of this may be moot, as Im not entirely sure Satan or the demons are even in hell, I read a thread recently about them being banished to earth after they fell, it did not say they were sent to hell, so if this is true, then they are not even in hell, but that would not make much sense for God to create such a place for them and then not send them there until after the final judgement, in this case, I would think God would create it THEN, instead of possibly 1000s of years early…confusing to say the least.

Indeed it is confusing. However I believe what you said, that they will be in hell at the last judgement but are not now. If they were, how could the evil in this world still be here? They still roam the world, but the judgement will come one day and they will be locked up forever.

The question still remains why God would have already created Hell, since he said this was specifically made for their place of punishment and binding, but they werent sent there, instead they were cast down to earth…why create a place when it wont be used until far into the future? This does not coincide with other things God has done very well imo. He tends to do things ‘as needed’.

Plus, how is it that some people say they see demons in hell, tormenting human souls…obviously this is not true, since they are not in hell yet…??

Angels exist and can be in many different places.
Some are adoring God on His throne, some are watching people, some are looking over various countries. They are NOT confined. Demons are fallen angels, They are not confined. Their eternal place is suffering in hell, yes. But they do “prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls” as the prayer says. Many mystics, exorcists, and other have testified to demons and evil spirits possessing people, which means, obviously, that the do not have to remain in hell. Demons tormented Padre Pio in his cell at night. He fought a terrible battle with them, as did his guardian angels.
I’m not sure why anyone would think demons are in a specific spot. If they are, how do they mess with people’s heads? Makes no sense.
God does what He does in His wisdom. He doesn’t NEED to do anything. He is God. This is what makes the Passion of the Son so incredible. He didn’t NEED to do anything for us, but He desired our redemption.
God punished the fallen angels. yes. Separation from eternal glory and the love of God is eternal torment., Hell. They put themselves there. All they had to do was continue to love God. Lucifer thought himself like a god. Read the story of the fall of Lucifer and those who sided with his opinion. Lots of answers there.
Also the catechism. Lots of answers there.
Peace.

WellI dont know everything, Hell exists, demons exist, satan is real thats all i can tell you, and ghosts MIGHT not always be hiuman, cuz humans cannot be conjured up. Id advise you start another thread with these questions.

NO…ONLY God is omnipresent, no one else can be in more than one place at one time.

NO…ONLY God is omnipresent, no one else can be in more than one place at one time.
Who said they were omnipresent?
Nobody.
They can and do move around depending on their particular job, or mission.

So the devil is like a roaring lion, waits, doing pushups! all the while trying to tempt us with outside influences! When we bite that apple, we fall into sin! Sin is separation from God… and them more we sin the less we think of the consequences.

some priests in catholicism actually will teach that there is no hell, well? I’m no priest but I’d say that’s a stretch! God doesn’t punish us! Scripture says we punish ourselves

Wisdom 1: 12 Do not invite death by the error of your life, nor bring on destruction by the works of your hands;

13 because God did not make death, and he does not delight in the death of the living.

14 For he created all things that they might exist, and the generative forces of the world are wholesome, and there is no destructive poison in them; and the dominion of Hades is not on earth.

there is a spiritual World to deny that, well 'The greatest lie the Devil ever told was convincing humanity that he didn’t exist."
Code:
like the vampire movies, God doesn't allow the devil to harm us, however when we open the door .& invite him in, well we are on the road to self destruction!
William James writes about five types of decisions we make or can make, one kind is the kind where we say "let’s see where this leads to? Well before you know it the answer hits you in the face, and there is no backing out! You made the decision regardless of the consequences when you started on that path.

well all decisions have consequences Good decisions have good consequences and poor decisions have poor consequences.

if you don’t consider the consequence of your actions well there’s no telling the outcome!

Some commentary believe there was a War in heaven between Bible Vss Gen 1& 2 whereas in Isaiah God says he did not create the earth a void

Isa 45:18
For thus says the LORD, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it a chaos, he formed it to be inhabited!): "I am the LORD, and there is no other.

and the war was caused when Lucifer would not acknowledge the presence of God in man… So he tempts man to turn from God.

The Hebrew commentary will tell you Satan went after Eve because he had the most to gain from tempting Eve, so when she augmented the word of God by adding “not to touch it” the serpent pushes her against the tree and says see you did not by touching it nor will you die by eating of its fruit! and it will also say Adam was close by because the Serpent is speaking in the plural form. The command of God was Given to Adam, Adam gives it to Eve… seems Adam waits instead of Correcting Eve, he watches to see what happens? When Eve eats of the Fruit, Adam doesn’t call to God, Adam eats of the fruit tree because of his Love for Eve.
Adam & Eve sow fig leaves on, to hide their fallen state and attempt to hide from God.

Adam blames Eve Eve blames the Serpent and neither confess their own faults. Adam and Eve become unworthy to remain in in the spiritual paradise of Eden and were expelled for the presence of God. In Christ we have access to the Presence of God, and like Adam we can forfeit that grace given us!
Code:
Hell is separation from God for Eternity, whether you believe it or not!
Ever find yourself at a cross road? you can go this way the right way or that way which is more desirable well Adam and eve had all of paradise to roam in, and where are they? the one place where the one thing is they can’t have!

and so it is with man & woman today without considering the cost we want what we want when we want it!

Like Fr. Corapi once said, I believe in the devil, because I’ve seen him!
yep there is evil in the world, and I’ve seen the devil in it!
if you believe in heaven there’s a hell and if there’s shell there’s the devil trying to take you away from the very place God created you for!
God bless,
John Oxios
