Is it possible that audiences of such pageants perhaps actually are watching women consenting to act as live mannequins in the clothing competitions before an international audience, all for the chance to have their physical attractiveness assessed and ranked? In preparation for which they oftentimes must sacrifice self-esteem, dignity, modesty, and possibly health in order to win a chance to spend a year touring the world on the basis of their looks. It is difficult for me to understand how a Catholic would be able to justify supporting such an enterprise at all, much less by participating as an audience member.
