Do Catholics believe is Jesus God?
I know this is supposed to be a quick question, but I would like to give you a little background about me. I am currently taking the RCIA classes to receive the 3 sacraments of initiation this Easter. I grew up in a divided household. My dad was Protestant and my mom was Catholic. My dad didn’t want me to get baptized Catholic because most Protestants are anti-Catholic. It also didn’t help my mom’s side of the family all being cradle Catholics. I grew up more going more to a Protestant church than the Catholic one. Unfortunately, I didn’t take religion seriously until my dad passed away 7 years ago. I started going more to church (Protestant) and reading the bible. I wanted to get baptized, but I wanted to be prepared. I finished reading the bible, and getting baptized at a Protestant church didn’t feel right. I had mixed emotions every time I heard the baptism announcements that were every month. I started reading books about the Catholic church and just fell in loved. This is where my question comes in place. I believe in the trinity and believe the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are the same God. I have always believed that and thought the Catholic church did too. A couple weeks ago, I was having a conversation with one of my cousins, who is Catholic. She was telling me that the Catholic church doesn’t believe Jesus is God, and that the Catholic church will never tell you that. That there is no proof. My baptism is coming up and would just really want to be sure about this.
