People reading the thread can decide for themselves, guanophore.
You are making the same mistake you do when you read the Scriptures, WCH.

2 Peter 3:16
… the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction…

You demonstrate the erroneous results of the SS foundation. You see, the author has a certain meaning in mind. When people reading all decide for themselves the meaning gets lost.

In this case, I proposed two questions to you. You are afraid to answer them, apparently, so you are trying to dodge them by arguing over whether not they are questions or assertions.

It is these kinds of shallow and evasive tactics that make it appear you are not here to have any meaningful discussion.

What was God’s purpose for the Pharisees, WCH? What did God want from them that they rejected?

If he gave them the grace to repent, did they choose not to do so?

Thanks PR. Hopefully the rest of us will use them.
:pshaw:
Do you think WCH got any catechesis? The posts reveal a very immature level of theological reasoning and interpersonal skills. Maybe more than catechesis is frozen in childhood?
I think, like most ex-Catholics who come to the CAFs, their childhood catechesis was very, very bad. They leave and in their Protestant studies learn some things about the CC (some true; most incorrect) and now, sadly, know more than the average Joe-Catholic-lump-in-the-pews who mindlessly attends Mass weekly. :sad_yes:

Ah, here we go. That’s what I’ve been waiting for. When a Catholic realizes his apologetic concerning the OP is sunk, he shifts his polemic to an attack on Sola Scriptura. 👍

I told you guanophore. Try and pay attention.

“If He gave them…?” You’re not sure, then, right? When you’re sure, one way, or the other, rephrase your question, and I’ll consider an answer.

You may not realize this, WCH, because you don’t seem to pay much attention to the forum rules, but we are both off topic in this thread, so my comments had nothing to do with the OP.

I have never addressed the thread topic, with an apology or otherwise. :o

You refused to accept my question as it was written, calling it an “assertion” instead, so you could support your refusal to respond to it.

When I pointed out to you that it was not an assertion, but a question, you said “the readers can decide”.

This is the same erroneous approach used with Scripture. Ignore the meaning of the author, and let every man decide for himself what the writer meant.

Except in this case, the writer has not yet gone on to his heavenly reward. 😉

Even when the author is here, saying "it means this’, you can’t accept it. 🤷

It has nothing to do with the OP. It has to do with being irrational.

So it is your belief that God commands all men everywhere to repent, but does not give them the grace to do so?

You believe God commands those things that are not possible?

God gives sufficient grace to all–God gives efficascious grace to the elect.

It’s too deep for me to understand–all I know is that God has given me sufficient grace to avoid Hell.

If I go to Hell it is because I choose to go to Hell.

If I make it to Heaven it will be because God worked with my free will and saved me.

I became Catholic at Easter Vigil.

I have a chance at not going to Hell!

The Catholic Church is the greatest thing in the world!

Yes.

Is it possible the keep the 10 commandments?

I’ll give you the definition from Wikipedia.

Free will is the apparent ability of agents to make choices free from certain kinds of constraints.
I don’t think this will work for a Calvanist. Calvanists believe that our enslavement to sin is a reflection of total depravity. They are too constrained by it to make choices toward God… they can exercise “free will” only to choose to follow the flesh, because the unregenerate, being in the flesh, cannot please God.

And why would this capricious God of yours command all men everywhere to repent, appear to give them an opportunity to choose live, yet not give them the grace to do so?
Is it possible the keep the 10 commandments?
Absolutely! 👍

Where God guides, He provides.
Hasn’t the RC defined “free will?”
We receive the definition of the Apostles, which is that man is made in the image and likeness of God, and is created with the ability to choose between good and evil.

Indeed, it is. I’m keeping them right now as a matter of fact. Not a single mortal sin for me to confess at this moment. :signofcross:
Most bible christians believe that it is not possible to do this. They think we HAVE to sin. They believe Jesus delivered them, but not from sin in this life. Just the eternal consequences of sin.

I can do all things in him who strengthens me (Phil 4:13) ! Amen!

Luke 1:5-7

5 In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a priest named Zechari’ah, of the division of Abi’jah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. 6 And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless. 7 But they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and both were advanced in years.

Interesting post, I oftened wondered about poor Judas myself. Jesus knew Judas’s heart and knew he was going to tell them where he was for money, and the devil probably knew who was the easiest prey amongst the apostles, Judas. I don’t believe of course he thought they would kill Jesus, he was very distraught he commited suicide, unlike Peter who asked for forgivenes. I do believe if Judas would of asked for forgiveness it would of been given becasue Peter in my mind denying he knew Jesus was just as bad.

I have no idea where Judas is but I guess what I take from it is how the love of money can cause people open to sin and the devil, and just goes to show how even someone close to you can betray you.
