Is Karen Armstrongs "The Bible" reliable information?

Depends on what you mean by “reliable.”

If you check her footnotes, and you go to her sources, I’m pretty sure she quotes her sources accurately in most of her books.

If you pay attention to her presentation, OTOH, it’s usually either biased, only partially accurate, or just snarky. Also, many of her sources are the sort of modern scholars who pull things out of their butts, or are also biased, snarky, and only partially accurate.

Sigh. Look, I’m not going to tell you not to read her stuff (although there are a ton of better popular works on the history of the Bible, not to mention its meaning), because it’s possible to learn good stuff from bad books. But it’s a lot of work. And it is a lot easier to learn from good books than bad.

Gary Michutas’ book on the history of the Bible is short and informative. But again, there are many many others.
