Is kneeling during the consecration at Mass optional?

Is kneeling during the consecration at Mass optional? I have always believed that unless there were extraordinary circumstances, right after the priest finishes the “Holy, Holy, Lord God of Hosts” prayer the faithful kneel. I have now been to several churches where the faithful stand during the consecration. Is this a legitimate option?
