Koine Greek is maintained to a much lesser extent among the Melkites and Antiochian Orthodox. Usually it’s restricted to thrice-or-more repeated parts such as the “Kyrie” during the multiple litanies, particularly the Litany of Peace, the First Antiphone (Through the prayers of the Mother of God), and the Trisagion. The rest of the time they use Arabic in the Patriarchal territories and the native tongues in the “diaspora”. The diaspora itself is somewhat interesting. Here in the States English is the predominant language of the Liturgies among both the Antiochians and the Melkites. Certain factors, such as the number of immigrant first generation families, etc. will often determine the extent of Arabic used in the Liturgies as well. Some parishes only use English. Some a mixture of English, Arabic, and Greek, using mosly English, and others will even throw in a good amount of Spanish depending on what part of the U.S. the parish is situated in.
