I haven’t read all 11 pages but it looks like the fear machine is alive and well when it comes to talking about liberals. I feel like I’m reading an episode of Glenn Beck.

Lets see so far just after doing some skimming, Lucifer was the first liberal (nice, we’re up there with the devil), liberals like communism, socialism = communism (wrong), and we’re all just basically evil. /palmface

Off the top of my head I can think of some fairly liberal good things that have happened.

The American Revolution
End of Slavery
Womens Suffrage
Equal Rights Act of 1964 and The Voting Rights Act of 1965
Desgregation
The formation of unions so workers get treated fairly
The New Deal

Not a terrible list of evil liberal policies.

What makes you think that those things on your list of “liberal good things”, were supported by all liberals and not supported by any conservatives.

Why isn’t, legalized and publically funded abortion, legalized homosexual marriage, embryonic stem cell research, legalized drugs, legalized pornography, legalized protestation, sympathy for heinous criminals and the ACLU on your list of “liberal good things”? And, wasn’t President Lincoln a Republican? Not that you hold any these views but many liberals, in general, do support and fight for these things, correct?

Well, mostly because it wasn’t my goal to make an extensive list but if I must answer for these as well then…

Legalized Abortion - Yup, already legal and should stay that way

Publically Funded Abortion - Yes because abortion itself is legal. The argument is usually that people don’t want their money being used for abortions but insurance companies already pay for abortions so either way your money is being used for it.

Legalized Homosexual Marriage - We need to get over our prejudices. Specifically making law to deny homosexuals of the rights that everyone else takes for granted is wrong. I thought we learned this lesson when we denied peoples rights because of their skin color.

Legalized Pornography - Free speech from my perspective, people can either choose to watch or ignore it. Keep an age limit on it like we have now and let parents police themselves and their kids. After all aren’t conservatives all about individual responsibility?

Legalized Protestation - Not sure what this is, do you mean prostitution?

Legalized Drugs - Most of them sure. Again, individual responsibility. We spend truck fulls of money on the war on drugs and all we end up doing is driving up the cost of drugs making drug cartels as powerful as nations. Anyone who is determined to get drugs is going to get drugs anyway.

Sympathy for Heinous Criminals - That’s a pretty broad statement. You’re going to have to be more specific as to what kind of sympathy you’re talking about here.

ACLU - Great organization. Not sure why conservatives hate them so much.

President Lincoln a Republican - Absolutely correct. And the other thing is that many republicans were considered liberals once upon a time. The republican party when it was created as a split away from the Whig Party. The republicans absorbed the democrats, various 3rd parties and ex-whig party folks which was the conservative party of the day. Republicans were the liberals of the day! 🙂

How things have changed. Now the republicans seem like the old whig party and democrats are wanna be republicans because they can’t seem to grow a sack and do what they say they will do.

This isn’t really a republican vs democrat thing from my perspective. Political parties change but conservatives and liberals have always been around demonizing the other side. What issues are hot buttons varies from time to time though.

Either way this is what being a conservative means to me - nothing happening or trying to go backwards in time.

I can apreciate alot of conservative views and even agree with alot of them but at the end of the day I’m a liberal. Conservatives just don’t make any sense to me and just seem really hypocritical and when I say this I’m talking about politicians more than the gneral populace because I obviously can’t go and find out what every conservative thinks. All I can do is go on the actions of the conservative leadership.

For example:

Small Government: Conservatives always go on about smaller government and less spending but I don’t hear alot about how to do that right now, all I see is lip service. This is a big country, big government is part of the package. With the amount of people we have there isn’t any such thing as small government.

Taxes: Every day I hear about lowering taxes. We need to raise taxes. Taxes are generally lower than they have been in a long time while spending has done nothing but gone up since 2000. Raising taxes isn’t popular but we’ve lowered taxes to the point of not being able to support the country. The next step of course is to blame President Obama for our enormous debt. And while I agree that he needs to start doing something about it, we were in this situation LONG before he was even a thought in anyones mind. Who’s administrations oversaw all of this debt? Reagan, Bush, and Bush Jr. which were so-called “conservatives” yet somehow all I hear about is how liberals are creating more debt. I don’t remember hearing many conservatives get all worked up like they are today between 2001 and 2009 when we were cutting taxes, paying for 2 wars and giving out corporate welfare in the form of Medicare Part-D.

This country was in ruins way before we had a Democrat in the white house these last couple years and I don’t even consider him a Liberal at all yet somehow it’s the liberals and democrats that are ruining the country? You’ve got to be kidding me. Honestly. Does everyone have that short of a memory that we forgot all the deregulation, all the tax cuts, all the corporate welfare, all the anti-union schemes, and all the jobs getting off-shored to other countries, all largely put in place by so called conservatives which in this case is the republican party and now we want to put them back in power again to do more of the same? I hear alot of complaining but I don’t hear alot of solutions.

Cut Spending, lower taxes, pay off the debt is what I pretty much hear but I don’t hear anything as to how. Paying off the debt means cutting spending but no one wants to cut anything. You can’t raise taxes because people think you’re trying to take all their money. You gotta pick one because you’re not doing it all.

Well, mostly becaus… (Too long to re-post).
Your quotes are in blue** and my responses are in black -**

Legalized Abortion - Yup, already legal and should stay that way

At what point is a person a human being?

*Publically Funded Abortion - Yes because abortion itself is legal… *

So, you believe that people who are opposed to abortion should pay for this?

Legalized Homosexual Marriage - We need to get over our prejudices… . I thought we learned this lesson when we denied peoples* rights because of their skin color.*

Did you mean “people’s”? What does the color of a person’s skin have to do with the behavior of that person? Do you believe that a person does not have a right to religious freedom? Religious freedom that includes the freedom to have religious based views towards homosexual behavior? Where are we going to find the money from the public and private sector in this economy to pay for “partnership benefits” and “survivor benefits” and all those benefits the go along with legalizing homosexual marriage? It isn’t free…Who will pay for this and how much will this add to an already struggling, Social Security and Medicare system?

*Legalized Pornography - Free speech from my perspective,… let parents police themselves and their kids… *

Free speech? How is this free speech? With Cable TV and Satellite TV, you don’t think children will have access to this stuff, especially those children who may have one parent, who is away working for most of the day… come on…

…Not sure what this is, do you mean prostitution?

Please, you know what I meant, Prostitution… typo… How do you feel about this?

*Legalized Drugs - Most of them sure… We spend truck fulls of money on… *

Did you mean, “truck full’s”. Most of them… Oh, please give me the list of the drugs that you think should be legalized. Do you believe that it is ok, with the current worldwide economic slowdown, to add more drug addicts and potheads to society… this is a good thing?

Sympathy for Heinous Criminals - That’s a pretty broad statement. You’re going to have to be more specific as to what kind of sympathy you’re talking about here.

ACLU - Great organization. Not sure why conservatives hate them so much.

Your answer regarding the ACLU answer’s my question regarding, punishing criminals…

*President Lincoln a Republican - Absolutely correct. …many republicans were considered liberals once upon a time. The republican party when it was created as a split away from the Whig Party… and ex-whig party folks which was the conservative party of the day. Republicans were the liberals of the day! *

Did you mean Republican and Whig parties? “Liberals of the day”; Are you kidding me? By today’s standard for “liberalism”, both parties consisted of mostly, God fearing conservative people and people who would be opposed to most of, if not all of your beliefs here.

…I can apreciate alot of conservative views and even agree with alot of them but at the end of the day I’m a liberal. Conservatives just don’t make any sense to me and just seem really hypocritical and when I say this I’m talking about politicians more than the gneral populace because I obviously can’t go and find out what every conservative thinks. All I can do is go on the actions of the conservative leadership.

Did you mean “appreciate” , “a lot” and “general”? Not sure what you mean…Actually, I know what you mean but I don’t believe that it makes any sense.

Are all Atheists’, or most Atheists as condescending and far left liberal, as you are?.. Considering all of the posts that I have read by Atheists here at CAF, over the years, where they post things like, “you don’t have to believe in God to be a good person”? Do you believe that a person can be “good person” and hold your beliefs. Where do you draw the line, morally? Where do Atheists derive their moral compass?
