Is Life on the Rock cancelled?

Forgive me if this is the wrong place for this post…

EWTN hasn’t aired an episode of “Life on the Rock” in months. It used to air on Friday nights. Does anybody know anything on this? It’s strange to me that it would be pulled without notice.

I thought it was one of the few Catholic media television shows that catered to teens and young adults. I think that’s a very important demographic in our Church. It’s very important that we try to connect through media as that’s what people do today.

Does anyone have any recommendations for shows similar to it?

Yes, they stopped making it some months back, the two presenters are going onto do other projects I think, and there was something about a Life on the Rock :On the road idea I seem to recall. It was one of my favourite shows, my non Catholic husband would often sit and watch it with me and exclaim “those two are too cool for TV” which was his way of saying he really enjoyed it.

An episode of LOTR is scheduled to be broadcast on EWTN on December 17 and repeat on December 20th, but looking at the date of the show given, it looks like a ‘Best Of’ episode:

Jeff Cavens was the original host but I’m not sure why he left the show. I’m too old to appreciate that program and things like the “friar cam.”

Cavens’ departure seemed to be a big fork in the road for his career. I think he was seldom even seen on EWTN after that.

Ahh man, hate to hear that. Thanks for confirming. I’d be interested to know how exactly the decision came about to end the program. The show had some really valuable content, great discussions and guests.

No, it wasn’t The Father Francis Mary Stone TV program and the “limelight” wasn’t on him; it was an EWTN program geared to teens and young adults.

Father Francis was just one of the hosts; he was a solo host for a while and then Father Mark Mary co-hosted LOTR with Father Francis long before his affair became public.

Father Francis even mentioned on LOTR he didn’t want to host the TV program and did it out of a duty of obedience to his Friar Superior.

I hope they bring the regular shows of Life on The Rock back, either with the same hosts (I really like Fr Mark Mary and Doug Barry) or even with new hosts, just so they bring the show back with regular episodes.

I haven’t watched EWTN in a long while, but this show and ‘Sunday Night Live’ with the late Father Benedict Groeschel used to be two of my favorites.

I hope they bring the regular shows of Life on The Rock back, either with the same hosts (I really like Fr Mark Mary and Doug Barry) or even with new hosts, just so they bring the show back with regular episodes.

I liked Father Mark but found Doug Barry’s approach to be a bit too close to a secular right-wing talk show host than I preferred. He actually had to make a disclaimer once that he was NOT advocating violence.

I do recall seeing one archived Jeff Cavens hosted show that had Mother Angelica as a guest, I think that was broadcast the week of Mother’s death. That take on the show seemed much more informal, more like a “Theology on Tap” type of thing, than what it evolved into, a formal talk show with guests.
