Is littering a sin?

Well they say Confession is good for the soul: I litter so I would hope it’s not a sin. Like when they give you a stupid receipt at a fast food drive thru, I say no and she says she has to give it to me. So I ball it up and gently let it “fall” out of my hand on the way to get my food. Other trash I gather up and toss when I stop somewhere as I HATE trash in my car. I also toss my cigarette butts out the car window.

OK let me have it, I can take it 🙂

A legitamite authority has given us a law that in no way is in contradiction to Catholic moral teaching; it is undoubtedly a sin.
 
Dropping your trash on the streets, or out of a car window, or in a restaurant with the view that someone else will look after it, or clean it up, or that it doesn’t-matter-everyone-else-does-it, is the sin of sloth.

It also shows a lack of care for oneself and one’s environment, and a lack of respect for others.
 
I voted yes because on all levels of littering, it spoils Gods Creation. God Created the Earth and Heaven. You create a piece of art work or write a story or tend to your garden and next day someone else has dropped chewing in your garden, graffitied over your art work dumped your story in the river how would you feel…

NAUGHTY, NAUGHTY! Please stop. You’re too lazy to have a waste basket in your car? So you break rhe law?

She does. It’s yours. It contains your banking information on it, so she is not allowed to keep it or do anything with it, because if your identity is stolen, you could sue her for mishandling the receipt.

Did you realize that birds and animals might get into your trash and try to eat it? That the dead carcasses of animals and birds that are poisoned by your trash attract predators into the city, thus putting children and elderly people in the way of possible harm?

Plus, it just makes your neighborhood look very unattractive, and drives housing prices down.

As someone who has taken part in a number of volunteer city clean up days, I can certainly say that littering is rude and shows a lack of character.

So we’ve got a violation of the 4th Commandment and an application of one of the 7 deadly sins. So, yes - it’s a sin.
