Is living together abstinently a sin?

My girlfriend–soon-to-be fiancee, really–are living together, and we begin RCIA in January. We will receive our first sacraments in October, and I do not want to be in a state of sin at that point so that I can receive the sacrament of reconciliation, as I have quite the list to get off my chest. The problem is, we have just signed a year-long lease to live together, so we cannot really get out of it, considering that marriage would not be tolerated by either of our parents, or our financial situation, until after we graduate college. (Spring '09)

I don’t see it as sin, as Joseph and Mary were certainly living together in similar circumstances, especially considering that we have been abstinent for over a month and we both have realized that our relationship is stronger without sex “muddying things up,” if you will.

I understand that it is certainly not a desirable situation, and that there is always the temptation there, but it seems that as long as we remain abstinent (anything further than kissing) we should not be “in sin.”

What is your interpretation? Will we be able to receive absolution?
