Is marriage to a woman a bad thing?

Well said Noone, It apears that the chritian faith has been built on purpose. But still there are some sects in christianity who marry and marry more than one. I cannot recall their names. Pehaps mormons are one of them. But there are other christian sects too who marry heavily.
WRONG again and mormons are not Christian Please stop telling lies and get your fact right

The reason I get the anti family vibe from the Catholic church is all the, well… the virgin Mary, Jesus not being married, the anti marital statuses of the leaders (priests and nuns) in the church. How can they possibly lead their flock wisely if they do not experience the same things in life that you all do? What kind of example are they for you in your day to day lives? 🙂
To me a married pastor’s opinions would be colored by his experience. Why would I trust a priest who is married any more than a fellow layman who is married? Remaining outside marriage allows for more objectivity. Besides, the pastor has much more to deal with than simply ministering to families in such a way. Administering sacraments takes a great deal of time and effort. It is a life’s call, not just a career.

The pastor belongs to ALL the families in his parish. If he has one of his own, he would have a more difficult time being available to the rest of his congregation. It’s either that, or his own family would suffer from his attending to the rest of the congregation. It is not an 8-5 job like many people have. He needs to be available around the clock. For instance, if someone is dying in the middle of the night, he needs to be there to administer the sacrament of the anointing of the sick.

Besides, with the exception of marriage and family, they do experience many of the same things we face in our daily lives. Besides, if I needed advise on family matters, there are many people I could go to. Why would a priest’s opinion be any more valid than a layperson’s?

I get the feeling that most non-Catholics think our priests are holed up in a church all week and we only see them on Sundays and holy days, and that they have no family (ie parents, siblings, relatives, etc.). That they don’t actually have any life at all. How wrong they are.

Well, since these “Christian sects”, if they even exist, are outside the Catholic Church, who really cares? Many protestant churches have ministers who marry. That doesn’t mean the Catholic Church should accept it.

And, as someone else has already pointed out, mormons are not Christians.

errr… it should be, don’t you think? Experience, if we use it correctly, brings forth wisdom. Albeit, there are pastors who take the black/white stances (example being: encouraging husbands who are cheating to work through it rather than divorce, thus leaving the burden on the woman to either do it, in which case she will be made to feel shame OR leaving her to cope unneedlessly if he continues to cheat… or at least always wondering if he is… that would be torture, I would think anyway).

shrugs only you can answer that. 👍
Remaining outside marriage allows for more objectivity.
If I were to accept what you say at surface value, I could actually say you made a good point here; however, experience tell me that objectivity without actual experience still will not afford one to be able to offer proper wisdom. Now, objectivity with wisdom gained through experience… that would be the ideal example I would turn to for advice.

Pastors of the fundamentalist churches are solo to all their congregation… one who has to visit sick, the dying, etc. Aren’t there several priests (or at least… sorry, I do not know what they would be called, co-priests) in a church?

I am asking for education here as I do not know how that works within a Catholic church. 🙂

I do not know the inner workings of the Catholic church. You all are educating me on how your Church works. I am just responding. 😉

In regard to your example, divorce is not allowed in the catholic church, but I get what you mean. But a man can counsel another to stop cheating, whether he is married or not. However, what if the priest is not very good at relationships. There is nothing about being a priest that gives him a greater understanding of married life simply because he is a priest, married or not.

But poor experience does not give one proper wisdom. Also, wisdom can be gained from the observation of the various families in a parish. The parish priest really becomes a part of just about every family in the parish. I can look through our photos from different events, such as baptisms, first communions, marriages, etc., and at every event there are pictures taken with the presiding priest. This is true for most Catholics. Being part of so many families enriches the experience and wisdom for the priest far more than a single marriage of his own.

Actually, right now there is a shortage of priests. Some parishes have a parochial vicar, but many parishes actually share priests with other parishes.

The Wedding of Jesus

Hi

I think marriage to a woman is the most pleasant thing in every civilised society and culture of the world and is celebrated as such. It is pro life and pro humanity, in my opinion.

My Catholic friends don’t need to believe it, if they think, marriage to a woman is injurious to their faith, in my opinion.

I love Jesus

Thanks
First let me say Jesus was never married and for you to say marriage is bad, well how did you get this ideal not from any Christian you be dreaming or you are trying to be a clown or you are just kidding this is just my opinion…do you know what the word blaspheming is saying. Please look up the word in the dictionary and give me your interpretation or your opinion

MHalsey, thank you for your kindness in answering. I really have nothing to add as it would just be a rehash of what I have already stated. I respect your right to your views and again, thank you for sharing them with me and giving me a bit of education in how the church works as well. 🙂

Since he used my view in his op, I hope you do not mind if I take a go at this. 😃 I got the sense that Catholics are an anti family establishment based on all the two main characters in their story being not married and the leaders of the Church (priests and nuns) not being allowed to be married.

As for blasphemy, it has several different meanings… but to me, blasphemy would be to deny the first and obviously most important commandment… the one Jesus taught as being most important as well. I am sure he would roll over in his grave to know that others are calling him God seeing that his goal was to enlighten his people of the depth in God’s ways. :sad_yes: Would be tough to know that you are worshiped when all you wanted was God’s people to worship Him in spirit and in truth.

The beginning is always a good place. Well, that was an easy question… next! 😛

Hmm… I will definitely search myself so I can know definitively, but it seems to me that even the NT declares Jesus having siblings. James the Just being one of them, correct?
Does it? What does it say? Are they ever named as Children of Mary? No, they are not. They are called his brethren, which could mean older siblings or cousins.
Also,a virgin birthing a child is so obviously a lie. It is against the Laws of Nature and in Malachi 3:6 God makes it clear that He will not change. He does this so that we could decipher the Truth from the deception.
The Virgin Birth Concept had long been in play by the Hellenistic cultures before Jesus was even birthed to his mother and his earthly father. Egypt, Greece, and Rome were the ones who worshiped mythological concepts of gods, not the Jewish people.
Give me examples of a true virgin birth. How is it obviously a lie when Isaia says that a Virgin will bare a child?
Some example he was, huh?
Jesus was the perfect example. Yes, he was. I cannot help if you refuse to see that.
True, but if one is to support the family unit, then their leaders should have experience in the more stressful roles of the family unit… that being the partnership and the parenting roles. And through your following questions, I will show you the logic of why I am right.
Happy happy joy joy
NO, but the doc would certainly need to have experience in how to treat the patient physically since that is what he is being paid for. Would you go to said doctor if he had no hands on experience in how to treat you?
I had established he was a doctor, invalid point.
This is brilliant! The first obstitrician was in fact a man and though he was kind and experienced in delivering babies, there was a notable difference with my second go at it, in which case was aided by a female obstitrician who had several children. She knew the ins and outs through experience and was better equipped to help me and handle me with care than was the male doc. Get it? Need I go on?
So the male obstitrician was a failure? No, you just liked the woman better. It does not prove that he was incompetent.

I notice you avoid the other questions
Not logically since God has commanded us to serve our fellow human beings… that is serving God.
Yes, Marriage is a form of serving God. THere are lots of ways married people serve. However, this does not mean that single people should be killed off as heretics.

On a personal note, why do you hate Catholics?

Catholicism is not anti family. She is pro-family. She is pro-life. The Holy Family of Joseph, Mary and the infant Jesus is high on her list for devotion.

Priests and religious are not married not because marriage is bad but so that they can devote their whole lives in serving God. Priesthood is a vocation as much as marriage is a vocation. Whichever vocation a Catholic chooses, he/she must live it perfectly and according to its demands.

Priests, nuns and laities are simply members of one body. They have different roles and play them accordingly in the body (church). It is not a problem and as have been pointed earlier, Catholic Church has the highest respect for marriage compared to any religion on earth. Catholic theology of God’s relationship with the church is best explained and understood in term of marriage – The bridegroom (Jesus) and the bride (the Church).

Many Christians take offence at the casual way the OP portrays Jesus in contradicting their belief (that he is both man and divine). In that sense he is considered blaspheming. Personally I can understand this behavior considering that he is not Christian. However, the fact that Muslims are very sensitive when it comes to Mohammad, most probably tells a need that they should be sensitive to Christians’ sensitivity. Do to others what you want to be done to you. Unfortunately Muslims/Islam does not believe in the Golden Rule, so that’s another difficulty for Christians to dialogue with them.

Jesus is true God and true man. As God, he wants to be worshipped. That understanding is very clearly demonstrated in the Bible and understood by the apostles as such. There is not an iota of doubt that he is God.
