Is Mary of the line of David?

I belong to a Why Catholic group and a question came up about Jesus being of the line of David. The question was how could this be since Joaeph was His foster father and not biologically related to Him. I thought that I had read somewhere that Mary was also descended from the line of David. Is this so? If so, is it in one of the gospels?
