Is Mary considered perfect since she was sinless, or is God the only perfect One.

Mary was born without original sin so she was never tempted to sin. This does not mean she is perfect just a very good role model.

Mary was only “perfect” in that she was sinless, but only God is truly perfect.

I think Mary was tempted just like anyone else. But, she never fell from that state of origional grace. Remember that Adam was made perfect, but he was still tempted, just as was Jesus tempted. Anyone with a physical body is tempted. The sinlessness comes from not yeilding to temptation.

God picked her. Had to be for some good reason. i don’t know about the sin part, that will have to be between her and Him.

I know that her blood line was perfect. she was a faithful Jew. had to be a good mom. Her baby loved her very very much.

I say baby because we moms know that even if yours is 45 years old and is beginning to get bald and has a beer belly, he will always be your baby and you still want to fix all of his problems.

Imagine her pain inside her heart when she saw her baby on that cross. enough to make you weep for her.
And I am not catholic.

If you are only analyzing her holiness, Mary was and is “perfected” by God. God is perfect in His essence. Mary needs God and is entirely dependent on His making her perfect.
cf. For all the salvific influence of the Blessed Virgin on men originates, not from some inner necessity, but from the divine pleasure. It flows forth from the superabundance of the merits of Christ, rests on His mediation, depends entirely on it and draws all its power from it. (Lumen Gentium #60)

For those who are not formally and visibly members of the [Catholic] Church, salvation in Christ is accessible by virtue of a grace which, while having a mysterious relationship to the Church, does not make them formally part of the Church, but enlightens them in a way which is accommodated to their spiritual and material situation.

FWIW: One of the bases for the dogma of the Immaculate Conception, is in her comparision to Eve–i.e.–the New Eve (dates back to St. Ireneaus). Sin came into the world through a sinless, immaculaately concieved virgin; as did salvation (Christ Jesus) through Mary.

…and as you pointed out–God chose her.

First, it is significant that he chose to be born at all–He created Adam from nothing–He could just as easily ‘poofed’ into existence, as a man. Yet He chose to become incarnate through a woman (and by the Holy Spirit).

Second–of ALL the woman who ever lived before Mary–and ALL the woman who have ever lived since–and all who were alive contemporaneously–He chose her.

Third–what sense would it make for God to become incarnate, through anything less than an immaculately conceived virgin? It is even inconsistent with scripture. e.g.—the Ark of the Old Covenant–used to store the Word of God (tablets with the 10 Commandments)–considered the Holiest of Holies, and treated with the utmost reverence–Mary is the Ark of the New Covenant–in whom was kept the Word of God made flesh.

Fourth–as St. Thomas Aqinas pointed out–the Angel Gabriel showed Mary reverence. No where else in the Bible does an angel show reverence to a man, before Mary (later Jesus, but not before). Throughout OT, man showed the angels reverence, as they are heavenly, and we are fallen. Hence this too, serves as evidence of the IC.

Just some thoughts…

Mary was part of God’s plan for the world from the very beginning:

Gen 3:15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, between your offspring and hers. He will strike at your head and you will strike at His heel.

It wasn’t so much that God chose Mary from among many women because she was sinnless, but MADE HER IMMACULATE for His own purpose. She was concieved immaculately, and refrained from sin on her own because of her love for God.

Mary is the Perfect example of how to be a follower of Jesus and in doing the Will of God:thumbsup:

Mary is Perfect Because she is the Mother of God (the Son) not inspite of…because that is how God made her…

Mary is the Perfect example of Motherhood inwhich all over moms strive to emulate (or at least should)

Thank you Lord Jesus Christ for giving us Your Mother to be ours as well.

Is Mary Perfect?..YES!!! By the grace of God she is.👍

Excellent point! 👍

I stand proudly corrected!

Nothing imperfect may enter heaven.

So, all of us will be perfect should we reach heaven. So Mary along with all the saints are perfect. Some may have had a harder row to hoe to get there but we all have the chance. Give it time, you will get there.

It depends if you include the concept of divinity in the definition of “perfect”. I wouldn’t include that concept in there. As Jesus clearly said:

Matthew 5:48 Be you therefore perfect, as also your heavenly Father is perfect

He obviously wasn’t calling for us to be God, but to be perfect.
