Hi, Kaycee

Romans 15: 30, Meanwhile I urge you, brothers, by Our Lord Jesus Christ and by the love of the Spirit, that in your prayers to God for me you exert yourselves to help me.

Why does Paul ask for his brothers in Christ to pray for him, sounds like intercessary prayer to me, does Paul believe asking someone else to pray for him is ok ?

Peace, OneNow1
Have a nice day!

Is Mary omnicient and omnipresent?

Can she hear billions of prayers at the same time?

I thought God was a jealous God, why would he share his attributes with a human.
John in Revelation had no problem seeing and hearing EVERYONE praising God - in heaven, on earth and under the earth - all at once, when God graciously granted to him to do so.

So I have no problem believing that Mary, through the granting of God’s power and grace, can hear the prayers of those who pray to her - which is not the same thing as being truly ‘omni’, since she’s not hearing, seeing or knowing absolutely everything!

And isn’t it indeed said that we shall be like God when we see Him as He is? Why not in this attribute of His then?

Is Mary the Co-redeemer?
It depends on your personal definition of what “Co” means.
  1. Together; joint; jointly; mutually: coaptation.
    2. Subordinate or auxiliary: coenzyme.
  2. To the same extent or degree: codominant.
Subordinate-Redeemer? Yes
Auxiliary-Redeemer? Yes

Mary doesn’t need to hear the billions of prayers at the same time.
Heaven isn’t tied to our time constraints, it is eternal.

He would share with Mary because he loves her, but he isn’t sharing his attributes, he is allowing her to hear all these prayers, and then pass them on to Him.

Maybe she is his secretary.😃

After having this belief of Mary as our co-redeemer I now truely understand it. I believe it now. Thank you all.

God speed.

Really only English has this problem of the most common meaning being equal and English is spoken by only a small minority of Catholics. The Catholic Church of course is Catholic meaning Universal and so must base its decisions on terminology on the wider language base which is predominantly Latin based languages like Spanish, Italian and French, And the official language of the Church is still Latin. All these languages do not have the equal connotation as it does in English.

It would be nice if there were no confusion in English, but even in English the non equal use of the term is common enough that people with a desire to understand should ask which meaning do you mean. And when we use it in context with the other partner then the inequality is clearly expressed even in English, That is, Mary Co-Redeemer and Christ Redeemer clearly expresses inequality but to say Mary and Christ are Co-redeemers clearly expresses equality.

I agree it would be better to not have the confusion, but so far no other term has been poposed given all the other languages to consider.

Ave Maria!
Sorry for such a delay. My family schedule as of late doesn’t let me check into the forum as often as I’d like. I would say we are in violent agreement with regard to the important points; however, this board is in English, and the friendly Protestants here with whom we discourse speak English (maybe exclusively). Perhaps we English speakers are in a minority for Catholics, but I suspect we have a greater ratio of Protestant neighbors than many others. I think a better thought out, less inflammatory term could have been used–Cum Redemptor, First Participant in Redemption, something else. Parsed grammar aside, if you throw out the term “co-redeemer” into any Protestant assembly, you are likely to get a negative response because they equate the prefix “co” with “equal” whether it’s right or not. Many (most) Catholics do, too. So, why not make our job easier and come up with a better name?

Is Mary omnicient and omnipresent?
Why do you limit God and what He can do for His own?
Can she hear billions of prayers at the same time?
Mary is in heaven and is now outside of time. Therefore, she has all the “time” she needs to listen to our prayers.

1 Corinthians 2:9
However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him” —
I thought God was a jealous God, why would he share his attributes with a human.
1 John 3:2
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when he appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Mary and the saints in heaven already partake in the life that we have yet to see.

Hope this helps. :tiphat:

I believe that Mary is our Co-redemptrix as defined by the Church. This in no way confers Divine status upon her and is basically an acknowledgment of the unique and very special role Mary has in bringing our Salvation into the world.

No Mary, no Jesus
Know Mary, know Jesus.

The only problem I have with the title is that it can be and frequently is, misunderstood.

These are prayers to God from the saints. Not sure why this is quoted. There is no prayer to saints or Mary here.
Acts 9:32
As Peter traveled about the country, he went to visit the saints in Lydda.

You see, some of the saints were still here on earth. These are the prayers being offered in the bowls in Revelation.

Hope this helps. :tiphat:

That would be a finite action. In fact, hearing billions of prayers from billion of creatures is still a FINITE action. Finite actions, by definition, do not require infinite power.

Besides John heard all the creatures of the Universe when he had his vision of Heaven (Rev 5:13). Does that mean that you know consider St. John to be ‘omniscient’

He shares Love, Truth and even Immortality with us. Those are His attributes.

2 Corinthians 5:18 tells us that God has given us the ministry of reconciliation. It would seem strange that God would give us this ministry and not to our Blessed Mother:

blessyou:

Well, for one, Mary is not a priest, and the ministry of reconciliation is a priestly function.

1 Peter 2:9 that there is the priesthood of all believers. You can not limit it to just the priest.

Remember, Prima Scriptura:D

And remember Tradition. Reconciliation is a function of the Ministerial priesthood, not universal. Church dogma.
Sacred Tradition must take a back seat to Sacred Scripture.
Sacred Tradition is the servant to Sacred Tradition:thumbsup:

Dang, now I wish I hadn’t voted that I’m not sure. The voting is a perfect 50 for and 50 against, I could have tiped the scale. 😃

But seriously, I agree with many others who said that this seems theologically sound (it’s not official so I’m not voting yes, but it seems likely) but a marketing nightmare.

I can see so many Bible christians taking shots at this one.

I once thought that the Mediatrix of Graces was too much. Then over time believed but thought, why officially say it? Just wisper to people that it’s true and move on. Heck for that matter, I thought if one person stops taking the Eucharist b/c Catholics said Mary was an ever virgin, we should stop that too…then I realized no. We can’t. The Church is God’s mouth piece for truth in the world. And as I accepted the truth of Mary’s role, I’ve better understood all the faith.

The Church must speak all truth that God reveals to it at the time God appoints and I trust the His spirit leads the Church in doing just that. So, if co-redemptrix is right, they’ll make it official. If not, they won’t. God’s got His hand on it.

But…in case the Church does do it…anyone think we could raise money to get a Catholic Apologetic commerical on during the Super Bowl to explain to the nation the right way? Cause thousands will be presenting it falsly.
