Where do you find your authority in the scriptures to pray to Mary? Or, do we have any example in the scriptures that tells us Mary hears our prayers or can intercede for our sakes? Let me answer this … you can’t!

Who said, "Joh 14:1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.
Joh 14:2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.
Joh 14:4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
Joh 14:5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
Joh 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

Jesus said this! “I”, Jesus is the way and no one will come to the Father but through Him!

Who gave us this example of how we should pray,

"Mat 6:9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.
Mat 6:10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.
Mat 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread.
Mat 6:12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.
Mat 6:13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Mat 6:14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
Mat 6:15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

IS Mary mentioned ANYWHERE in this passage?

As a new Catholic this past Easter I had a very hard time with this. I believe that Jesus deserves all the praise and glory for saving us. Why use a term that causes so much consternation?? I know the reason for sayimng that she is, but is it really nessassary to stress that fact?? Yes " All generations will call me Blessed: as well we should. But co-redeemer?? no.
The questions begs asking. In every day life, who brings up the subject of Mary as co-redeemer the most and stresses it?

The answer? Well, what I can tell you is that the average Catholic Apologist does not make it a habit of bringing it up and stressing it. Why? Because it is not a Doctrine. It’s just merely a Dogma at best.

Dave, then why in the world did you become a catholic? You need to get out your Bible, see how little the catholic church does is actually found in the scriptures! Mary is just the tip of the iceberg. What about the rosary, holy water, crossing one’s self, priests being celebate, structure of the catholic church, pope worship, I could go on!

Oh Gee…want to start a thread on each of these…Or you can just do a search. Each and everyone of your claims have been covered over and over again…

So why are you here?

o.k. Joe, show me what you’ve got! I’m waiting … You can’t prove any of these issues without going to catholic tradition which is constantly changing. I’m begging you, SHOW ME PROOF OF ANY OF THESE THINGS IN THE SCRIPTURES!

Proof for what? What are you saying we Catholic believe? So far I have seen from your post is the same ole anti-Catholic propaganda. From what I have seen from your post, you have no clue what we (Catholic) believe. Just what you think from non/anti Catholic sources what you thank we believe. But anyways this a thread about Mary.

God Bless,
Stephen

I can’t speak for Dave, but I became Catholic because it’s true.

You could, but you’d just be further declaring your ignorance of what the Catholic Church actually does.

I was raised Church of Christ. My dad is a preacher at a Christian Church. I know what you believe, and I’ve rejected it because it’s just not biblical.

**obviously you believe what you’ve been taught about the catholic faith and that’s FINE.
but why INSIST that those who are telling you certain things in that belief aren’t accurate don’t know what they’re talking about?
the TRUTH is: WE are Catholics and KNOW who we worship and why we do things the way we do.
YOU can either believe those who actually KNOW what they are talking about or those who just THINK they do.

John. 16: 13, The spirit of truth will guide you to all truth.
The Spirit of God does this through the Catholic Church.

1Tim. 3:15, church the pillar and foundation of truth.
Guess which Church ?

Matt. 16: 18, Jesus built church on Peter the Rock.
Guess who are the successors of Jesus ?

John. 10:16, there shall be one fold one shepherd.
Guess which church has one shepherd ?

Eph. 4: 11, church leaders are hierarchical.

1 Tim. 3: 1, identifies roles of bishops, priests and deacons.

1 Tim. 5: 17, Elders who do there work well.

Titus. 1: 5, commission for bishops to ordain priests.

Last but not least: Matt. 18: 18, the power to bind and loose.

I think you quoted the wrong person.

o.k., prove it! Use some clear scripture to prove it.
Hi B2. Most Catholics do not believe that you need to prove everything from scripture, so your probably not going to get much for an answer. They believe tradition is equal to scripture. That is where almost all Marian doctrines come from.

So was God lying when he inspired Paul to write:

2Ti 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,
2Ti 3:17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

No one has the right to use the “tradition” of any man-made body in place of scripture!

1 Tim 3:15

If I am not delayed, you may know how ought to behave in the household of God, which is the Church of the Living God, the pillar and bulwark of truth.

The only thing that uphold and preserve the Truth is the Church.

1 Tim. 6:20

O, Timothy, guard what has been entrusted to you.

Commentary: guard what has been “entrusted” to you. The word “entrusted” is “paratheke” which means a “deposit.” Oral tradition is part of what the Church has always called the Deposit of Faith.

Furthermore,

2 Thess. 2:5 – Paul yet again refers the Thessalonians to the previous teachings they received from Paul when he taught them orally. These oral teachings are no less significant than the written teachings.

2 Thess. 2:15 - Paul clearly commands us in this verse to obey oral apostolic tradition. He says stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught, either by word of mouth or letter. This verse proves that for apostolic authority, oral and written communications are on par with each other. Protestants must find a verse that voids this commandment to obey oral tradition elsewhere in the Bible, or they are not abiding by the teachings of Scripture.

2 Thess. 2:15 - in fact, it was this apostolic tradition that allowed the Church to select the Bible canon (apostolicity was determined from tradition). Since all the apostles were deceased at the time the canon was decided, the Church had to rely on the apostolic tradition of their successors. Hence, the Bible is an apostolic tradition of the Catholic Church. This also proves that oral tradition did not cease with the death of the last apostle. Other examples of apostolic tradition include the teachings on the Blessed Trinity, the hypostatic union (Jesus had a divine and human nature in one person), the filioque (that the Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son), the assumption of Mary, and knowing that the Gospel of Matthew was written by Matthew.

2 Thess. 3:6 - Paul again commands the faithful to live in accord with the tradition that they received from the apostles.

Second, the title Co-redeemer doesn’t make Mary equal to Jesus.

She partake in God’s redemptive plan.

Point:

When the Angel Gabriel greeted her He said

“Hail, full of grace. the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and considered in her mind what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceived in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever and his kingdom will have no end…”

And Mary said to the Angel, "How can this be since I have no husband? And the angel said, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the Power of the Most High will overshadow you, and therefore the child to be born will be called Holy, the Son of God.

And behold, your kinswoman Elizabeth in her old age has also concieved a son; and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For with God nothing will be impossible." And Mary said, “Behold, I am the Handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”

Mary co-operated in the redemptive plan by saying, “let it be to me according to your word.” In some translation, it said, “Be it done unto me according to your word.”

With those words, the Word became flesh. She cooperated with God’s divine will and has place herself amongst one of the greatest Biblical women in the Bible. For she is the only Woman to Bear the Word of God, the Theotokos, God-Bearer, Mother of God.

In that way, she is justly called Co-Redeemer. She partake in the salvation of men by giving God the flesh of her flesh, and the bone of her bone. Jesus’ body did not stem from any man, but from a woman. A creature. A woman more beautiful than all the supermodels and actresses in the world.

At the point in time that Paul wrote this the only Scripture in existence was the Old Testament Scripture. You need to grasp that Historical Fact first before you can continue.

Furthermore Jesus himself utilized Tradition. Did you know that?
