Is Mary the first and most powerful evangelist?

Merry Christmas every one on CAF!
I have been studying the account of the Blessed Virgin to Elizabeth, and it intrigues me because as soon as the Blessed Virgin conceived of the Holy Spirit, she decided to visit her Cousin Elizabeth and tell her the good news. Its also interesting that as soon as Elizabeth heard the voice of Mary, she was filled with the Holy Spirit and John leapt in her womb.
For me this is evangelism and a powerful one at that.
Please i’ll like to know your opinions on the account of the visitation.

Luke 1:39-45
39 Mary then set out for a town in the hill country of Judah. 40 She entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leapt in her womb. Elizabeth was filled with Holy Spirit, and 42 giving a loud cry, said, “You are most blessed among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb!
43 How is it that the mother of my Lord comes to me? 44 The moment your greeting sounded in my ears, the baby within me suddenly leapt for joy. 45 Blessed are you who believed that the Lord’s word would come true!”

The bolded part is food for thought for those who don’t consider Mary to be the mother of God.😃

I would agree with you that Mary, Mother of God Incarnate, a woman of true faith, was and is the first witness of her beloved Son, historically, with courage, and with faith, and faithfulness.

I think I would agree, don’t know what else to say. 🙂

I also love how this story (Mary visiting Elizabeth) is prefigured in 2 Samuel 6.

Not going to say it here, just read it and be amazed as I was! 😃

I realize that some Catholics refer to Mary as the new ark of the covenant, but personally, I believe that that is reading to much into it. Again, it’s just my opinion (which isn’t worth much!). Here’s another reference to the ark.

Jeremiah 3:16 (NIV)

16 In those days, when your numbers have increased greatly in the land,” declares the Lord, “people will no longer say, ‘The ark of the covenant of the Lord.’ It will never enter their minds or be remembered; it will not be missed, nor will another one be made.

Just my 2 cents…

There will be no Ark for the Old Covenant remade, that’s what it means. We’re not of the Old Covenant, we’re
in the New Covenant. Also, there are too many parallels that you are ignoring, such as 2 Samuel 6. Not only
that though, what did the Old Ark contain? The Ten Commandments, Rod of Aaron (High Priest), and Manna
from Heaven. Now what did Mary contain? The Word of God, the Eternal High Priest, and the Bread of Life.

That is often overlooked, even by Catholics I think.

I’m using Tota Scriptura here, “All of Scripture,” allowing the Whole Bible to de–
fine what one verse means, not vise versa, which is to use one verse to interpret
the entire Bible.

I don’t know about that, but I know Mary’s womb housed God! What more evidence do you need than that?

Yes…John The Baptist.He indeed was great and prepared the way for the Lord…but…was he the First evangelist, because Mary with child in her womb did visit Elizabeth inorder to tell her the good news and just the sound of her voice made John the Baptist to leap with joy in the womb.Maybe it was indeed Mary s voice that made John to be filled with the Holy Spirit in the first place in the womb.Who knows…

I agree with you guys on this one. John the Baptist was the greatest man born of a woman( its interesting to note here that Christ, who was born of a woman, did not consider Himself the greatest man,He was surely speaking as The Word of God here) and he led so many souls to repent, be baptised and turn to the Lord…But my question is, was he the first to preach the good news? I may be wrong and correct me if I am but I think Mary preached the good news to John while he was still in the womb of Elizabeth, so that makes the Blessed virgin the first…

I would say, “YES”!

Mary is Queen of all Saints

That should cover it. But, just in case, here are a few more:
( by no means exhaustive)

Queen of Heaven
Queen of the Angels,
Queen of Patriarchs,
Queen of Prophets,
Queen of Apostles,
Queen of Martyrs,
Queen of Confessors,
Queen of Virgins,
Queen of Families.
Queen conceived without original sin
Queen assumed into Heaven
Queen of the Most Holy Rosary
Queen of Peace

(No disrespect to John the Baptist.)

Just a small correction. Jesus did not say John was the greatest ‘man’ born of a woman. He said ‘among those born of women there has been none greater’. So that would be man or woman.
