Which is more appropriate to say: “Blessed Mary, the Mother of God” or “Blessed Mary, the Mother of the Human Body of God”? We know that the Son of God who is God is born by the Father only, who existed before the creation of the universe and all its hosts. When we call Blessed Mary “the Mother of God,” there is a certain erroneous title being assigned to the Blessed Virgin. But if we say “Blessed Mary, the Mother of the Human Body of God,” then we assign the exact title by which to address the Blessed Virgin. We would also remove any ambiguity that may confuse non-Christians of the world.

Is your mother the mother of your human body? Or is she your mother? I hope we can agree that, even though you were ultimately created by God (both body and soul), your mother is your mother. This is because human mothers give birth to persons, who are beings “at once corporeal and spiritual” (CCC 362).

Likewise, the Blessed Virgin is the Mother of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is a divine Person who possesses two natures, one human and one divine. Because Jesus is a divine Person (i.e., God) and Mary is his Mother, it logically flows that Mary is the Mother of God.
