Yeah, right.
John 2:1-5
On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesusâ mother was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesusâ mother said to him, âThey have no more wine.â 4 âWoman, why do you involve me?â Jesus replied. âMy hour has not yet come.â 5 His mother said to the servants, âDo whatever he tells you.â
Mary sees the newlyweds are in troubleâŚthey have run out of wine for their guests. She tells Jesus about this situation, and His response suggests that she was not making an off-hand observation. âOh, geeâŚtheyâve run out of wine. Bummer.â
Then Jesusâ response is: âWhy do you want me to get involved? The time for me to reveal who I am has not yet come.â Jesus clearly understood that Mary wanted Him to DO something about the situationâŚHe was just reluctant to go public with His big secret just yet. But Mom knew.
So, did He answer her request? You bet He didâŚwith 120 gallonsâ worth of the finest âYes, Maâam!â ever tasted in Galilee.
By the way, was Mary confident that Jesus was gonna answer her request? Boy, howdy! She told the servants, âFollow my sonâs instructions very carefullyâŚthis party is about to rock!â
