I have no intention to know anything about yin and yang or any New Age practice. I didn’t look for any sexual feeling. I went massaging because it gave me comfort and relaxed feeling. That’s it. Is the act of finding pleasure and comfort in massage sinful?

What an odd question. Was this a “massage parlour” that is really a cover for a quasi-brothel? If not, I don’t see why anyone would even think there would be an issue.
I love massages and go as often as my budget allows it… to Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs), and the treatments are covered by my extended medical benefits (well a portion is up to a certain maximum per year). I don’t care if I’m massaged by a man or by a woman (I’m a man)…there’s nothing sexual about it… and the RMTs I know would be VERY EXTREMELY insulted to suggest that there could be.

I am striving to be a good Catholic (but I haven’t). Maybe it’s not a sin, but is it a Christian and manly thing to do (I am a man) when I have no back issue and am totally healthy?

Thank you for replying.

I don’t even know about “massage parlour”. I know that the massage therapists are professional and have nothing sexual in mind. Neither do I think it is sexual in any way. I am just afraid that I may be called “indulging in pleasure” which is contrary to virtue.

I’m flagged this absurd and potentially harmful (to the scrupulous) post.

If one thinks that 99.99999% of massage therapy sessions (which is clearly the type of “massage” at question in this thread) are sexual, the problem is not with the therapy itself but rather with the individual who is making it sexual…
OP do you think Mary was giving out massages to random men? There is your answer.
Our Lady was also not giving prostrate exams to strangers. She wasn’t a medical or health professional.

Personally, as a married man, my regular massage therapist is a man…but I’ve had women therapists and it makes no difference to me.

I think the therapist could not care less about my sexual feeling. I am not even attractive and neither is she. Massaging actually hurts me and I don’t think any desire can come out of that. I just feel relaxed like eating and sleeping.

There’s nothing wrong with getting a massage for stress relief or relaxation. You’re totally fine.

I counter-flagged your accusatory post, which was made only because you have a bone to pick over statements in another thread.

Believe it or not, your post in this thread really is factually wrong and potentially damaging for someone suffering from scruples.

It’s not sinful.

However, since it can cost up to $150 for a one-hour massage, it does border on decadent. Here’s why: if you were to swim for half hour and sit in the hot pool, which many public swimming sites have, and enjoy the water spouting on your back, then you are at about the same place in terms of relaxed muscles. You can give the $140 you saved to a worthwhile organization.

Sports massage gets quite painful. If you think you are getting too much decadent luxury, go to a sports masseur 🙂

It’s not sinful, based on everything the OP has stated, since it’s for tension relief, not sexual gratification.

Interesting perspective. I hadn’t considered the cost aspect of this before.

I have to agree with you 100%. That post was way out of line and there are many scrupulants on this forum. I am scrupulous myself but even I will not fall into a panic over something so obviously ridiculous. If I went to my Confessor and told him I had a back massage, I can already imagine his answer after asking about if there was anything else going on other than a massage and when I tell him no, it was just to work the knots out of my back or something, he would straight up tell me “There is no sin there. No matter to absolve.”
