I was confused during my teenage years upto now regarding the issue on masturbation. I just want to ask if masturbation is really a sin? Without watching porn, without seeing pornographic images and most especially without lusting with someone. Hope that you can help me regarding this matter

Yes. It is a serious sin. It’s using your sexuality solely for your own pleasure which is wrong.

Yes its a sin.

CCC 2352 By masturbation is to be understood the deliberate stimulation of the genital organs in order to derive sexual pleasure. “Both the Magisterium of the Church, in the course of a constant tradition, and the moral sense of the faithful have been in no doubt and have firmly maintained that masturbation is an intrinsically and gravely disordered action.” “The deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose.” For here sexual pleasure is sought outside of “the sexual relationship which is demanded by the moral order and in which the total meaning of mutual self-giving and human procreation in the context of true love is achieved.”

To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.

Yes, it is always a sin. What varies is culpability for that sin. You sound like a reasonable adult, so, committing this sin intentionally and of your own volition, well, best take it to your priest.

In fact all catholics around are afraid of speak out…
Or don’t agree with this doctrine.

It is very a private, sensitive and taboo topic.

I just cannot believe how often this question is asked here. I feel like there should be something pinned at the top of the forum that says “Yes, masturbation is a sin. There’s no loophole or get out of jail free card regarding it. If you’re doing it, stop and go to confession. If you’re thinking about doing it, don’t. Please don’t create a topic asking about it”.

It is a grievous sin.
If you din’t know that up until know, don’t sweat it, but just don’t do it anymore either, esp. as you now know it is a mortal sin.

In fact I wasn’t aware of any teaching on this “indecent” subject before reading the Catechism and then an interview of the Cardinal Ratzinger. Around 18 years old. I was very surprised at first!

Not just a sin but for women unnatural and disgusting and for men the route to so much further sin - pornography, pornication, adultery etc

The specific word Masturbation is not in the Bible, but the term “sexual immorality” is.

I think masturbation is the better choice rather than premarital sex which can lead to possibly contracting an STD, possibly getting pregnant, and possibly getting your heart broken. It also doesn’t bring anyone else into sin with you if you choose to do it by yourself, as long as you don’t use porn to do it. Save the uniting with someone for marriage with someone who loves you and you love them. Sex just clouds peoples judgement.
for women unnatural and disgusting
Masturbation is about having an orgasm, so no it’s not disgusting and there’s nothing unnatural about orgasms, but it is selfish. Sex is about uniting with someone you love whether you have an orgasm or not. You aren’t married so I guess you can sort of be selfish, technically.

True. But all this endless talk about masturbation is bordering on the insane. If you believe it to be a sin, then don’t do it. If you wish to do it, just do it in private.
It is not a case of IF you believe t to be a sin. It IS a sin. God says it is a SIN.
You should not be telling someone to go and sin in private. That is cooperating in that sin.

I’m not co-operating in anything. I never told anyone to sin. But the choice of whether you masturbate or not does not come down to me. The point I was making is that it is not unnatural or disgusting.
Not correct. This is your own words:

If you wish to do it, just do it in private.

You are telling someone to sin which means you cooperate in that sin.

Let’s think of sin as deadly poison.

I am making brownies, in one pan of brownies I mix an entire cup full of the poison. In another pan I add 1/4 cup of the poison. Will you choose to eat either of them?

Read the book of 1 Corinthians, pay attention to 1 Corinthians 12:26. When one of us sins, it impacts the entire body of Christ.
