If so, then how severe of a sin is it?
It is grave matter but you cannot make the blanket statement that it is “mortal sin.”As to seriousness yes it is serious - it is a mortal sin.
It was 50 yrs ago and I’m sure it is now!It is grave matter but you cannot make the blanket statement that it is “mortal sin.”
It sure is. I prayed to Jesus and to the Blessed Virgin Mary and I was gradually led out. It took time but I was asking for something good and God heard my prayers. Sure, temptations occur, but it’s gotten a lot better than it was. A respect for women returns. It was 50 yrs ago and I’m sure it is now!
Is this a Catholic website or a Grammar school class?![]()
How many times must we go over this? Yes, it is a sin. A mortal one.If so, then how severe of a sin is it?
AMEN!How many times must we go over this? Yes, it is a sin. A mortal one.
Even the catechism states that culpability can be lessened or even completely diminished due to several circumstances. It was 50 yrs ago and I’m sure it is now!

Perhaps as many times until you get the correct answer. How many times must we go over this? Yes, it is a sin. A mortal one.
Not really. It is more of the realization that certain drives within us can be so strong as to cause us to do things which we would rather not. There is a psychological as well as physiological reason behind it. The catechism recognizes this. It is beyond me why no one here will.Masturbation left unchecked is a like an addictive drug, and when we do this, it is like telling God to go pound dirt. ]
I’m not condemning anyone…I just can’t believe people are trying to change a clearly mortal sin into an option.Even the catechism states that culpability can be lessened or even completely diminished due to several circumstances.
This is a Catholic website; why are you so quick to condemn others due to circumstances of which you have no knowledge?
It isn’t “clearly mortal.” Certainly it is grave matter, certainly it can be sinful but unless you know all the facts of motivation behind it, then you cannot say it is “clearly mortal sin.”I’m not condemning anyone…I just can’t believe people are trying to change a clearly mortal sin into an option.
OK …live with this fantasy until you talk to a priest. It isn’t “clearly mortal.” Certainly it is grave matter, certainly it can be sinful but unless you know all the facts of motivation behind it, then you cannot say it is “clearly mortal sin.”
I have, by the way. Why don’t you go argue with the catechism of the Catholic Church: "To form an equitable judgment about the subjects’ moral responsibility and to guide pastoral action, one must take into account the affective immaturity, force of acquired habit, conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability."OK …live with this fantasy until you talk to a priest.
No…so if I rob a bank, or kill someone I may have “conditions of anxiety or other psychological or social factors that lessen, if not even reduce to a minimum, moral culpability.”"I have, by the way. That doesn’t sound like “mortal sin. You’re going to hell,” does it?
