Is it okay if a single Catholic man of 35 masturbates?

If he has a healthy libido, and he is Catholic and happens to be single, is it Catholically permissible for him to engage in such masturbation for the relief he needs??

This is a question which is asked a lot, many times a year I expect.

There are quite a few threads on the subject which you can access if you use the search button.

As you probably need a quick answer I think it’s wise to bear in mind that it is a mortal sin and not to be taken lightly.

The more control you exercise the easier it will become to ease your discomfort. That requires submission to the idea that it’s a serious sin of course.

No need to masturbate. Let your body ejaculate naturally during wet dreams or let your body reabsorb the sperm back into your body which is more beneficial for your overall health. Remove all sexy temptations from your life. Try your best to cross “the point” where you will be free from the urge to masturbate for a long time. You will know when you have crossed “the point” after you had forced yourself to stop stop stop. Attend daily mass, pray all the time, and just keep yourself occupied with activity like helping out your church.

Ahhh. The ever popular quest for the masturbation loophole. You’ll sooner find a herd of unicorns.

No. I mean think about what your post boils down to. “Stopping would be really hard. So it must be moral in this case”. Jesus died on a cross for your sins. You can pull through this.

No it’s a sin. Mortal if done with full knowledge and full consent.

The idea that it’s done for health is false.

I put the question in two categories in the hopes of getting answers. I thought that was okay.

No. Masturbation is grave matter. As a Catholic, a man would have full knowledge that it’s wrong, and unless a gun was put to their head, they probably give full consent in doing it. That meets the three requirememts for mortal sin.
