In this case, unless I am very much mistaken, chastity requires abstinence. How about pregnancy in the last stages?

Welcome to CAF!I have a problem with masterbation being a sin. I am an older married man, my wife is beyond child birth age. I also have a medical condition which prevents me from having sex with my wife but the desire is still there and strong. Why can’t I relieve the stress, isn’t it a natural occurrence? I want to be strong, committed Catholic.
Thanks, Wondering
This thread is from 2008. I think it was the very first thread I ever participated in at CAF. Joe 5859 this is a response you wrote on this thread 4 years ago. What you are speaking of is your own hypothetical emotional response to several different scenarios. We cannot use this as a basis by which to determine the morality of these acts. Simply because our (emotional) response would be different does not change the fact that both acts are grave sin. I would react differently if my child came to me and told me they killed someone versus if they told me they stole a car. But in both instances I can confidentally say I would tell my children to get to Confession!

Masturbation is a sin,but circumstances make the guilt degree less than mortal.I am like you an older man married 43 years, 70 years old and full of ED and prostate problems.I can.t engage in normal intercourse, but the sexual desire is still there. Over the years I have confessed this sin over and over and many confessors have told me in my case the sin may not be as serious as I fear. At this point in my life, I have given it over to Jesus and taken my “leap of faith” in his divine mercy As Pope John Paul said,“Be not afraid”. As you continue your life, don’t expect “perfection” but abide in the Divine Mercy of Jesus and go forward,God loves you, Also, remember, we get to heaven as saved sinners, before we become SaintsI have a problem with masterbation being a sin. That’s quite presumptive, don’t you think? A common technique for us to rationalize behavior we know is wrong is to assume that everyone else is doing the same thing. That’s generally not conducive to growing in holiness.I seriously doubt there is anyone out there who is normal who has not masturbated deliberately both male and female including the POPE. So now that we have that settled -were all going to Hell. Humans, most animals in the natural world and every un-repentent catholic that ever has lived, is living now, and all those in the future. This is a big load of misunderstood rhetorical nonsense any well educated and secure individual can dismiss.
We once believed the earth was flat and the center of the universe based on superstitious
obedience to authority. Always challenge authority and learn to be honest with yourself.
