They seem to be very similar, was Jesus referencing these verses when he made Peter the leader of the Church? Or are they similar but no correlation? Thanks 🙂

Absolutely, that is where we get the term “Pope/Papa” from. “…and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem…”
 
That’s why I am very interested in it, I was trying to learn more about the papacy and I found this verse but I wasn’t sure if they were connected but they seemed way to similar to not be. Well thanks for confirming my assumption 🙂
 
Yes, they are connected. You should be able to find articles from the likes of Patrick Madrid, Steve Ray, Scott Hahn, and others that can link these verses much better than I. It is great reading and very affirming to begin realizing this connection.

Yeah when I found these verses I was shocked at how clear it supported what I already thought, but I had to come here to clarify. Glad I was right with my assumption, and I’ll check out them out 🙂
