This is my first time to hear of Voris, as I am listening to a recent interview he gave. My question is: Is he a liar?

No sure, really. But, he is getting a lot of negative press here, so I thought I’d ask. It seems that he has been speaking out against the church cover-up of the sex scandal involving predator priests and bishops.

How would we know if he is a personal liar? That is quite the accusation!

Just a question, not an accusation. I asked the question because in the Raymond Arroyo discussion, he and Voris were lumped together and characterized in a negative way. Since then I have listened to Voris and find nothing wrong with the points he is making, hence my question directed generally to his detractors.

I haven’t seen Michael Vorris for a while. From what i remember he was very boisterous in his articulations.

I suppose the only way you could call him a liar was if someone was to show a collection of things he said which he knew were untrue when he said them.

I think this is probably hard to do with most people, but perhaps easier for people commentating on current affairs continuously on social media.

There is also the situation where people who speak from theie inner beliefs can appear to be lying if those listening consider those inner beliefs to be lies in themselves.

The two are different aspects which makes the question somewhat complex.

Disclaimer : I kind of like people talking out boisterously about the Catholic faith but haven’t heard Vorris recently and certainly not extensively.

Regardless of his being right or wrong, I was appalled when someone who wanted him to be quiet outed him. That was very very telling in light of the events of the last year or so.

I do not believe him to be a liar.

But there is a strong case to be made that he lacks charity.

I’m a pretty die hard Vorris fanboy and I can tell you his theology series " the one true faith," is absolutely blow your sox off amazing. Especially the episode on Hell.

The Vortex can be blunt sometimes, but I think that’s par for the course when it comes to internet vlogs.

I watch Voris or spend time on his website occasionally and I am pretty sure he is not a liar. He an his whole website and operation can be pretty blunt but it is mostly about the news and what is happening in the Church and right now the main focus is the crisis.

I don’t see anything wrong with Raymond Arroyo either, just saying since I saw that was part of your question.

I agree with your statement and sentiments. I was just wondering if I had missed some bit of information that would indicate that Arroyo’s or Voris’ comments were based on falsehood, So far I have not seen or heard anything like that, but it is best to check,

OP, Voris has been a contentious topic on CAF for at least a decade; there was a ban on the topic for a time because the threads got so heated. In all that time (and many dozens of threads), I’ve never heard any of his critics accuse him of lying, so you didn’t miss anything there. Generally, there have been two kinds of critics here on CAF:
  • those who disagree with his conclusions and methods (Catholics on the progressive end of the spectrum)
  • those who agree with some or most of his conclusions, but object to his methods (e.g. “he’s orthodox and I don’t have a problem with most of his content, but his presentation is too inflammatory, esp. the Vortex videos”)

Thank you for this. NOw I have a clearer understanding of the opposition to Arroyo and Voris.

Perhaps this YouTube video will help anyone interested make his own decision about Michael Voris:

(I hope I linked it correctly - I’m not the best with technology).

No, I’ve yet to come across any of his videos or statements where he was accused of outright “lying”. I think many people dislike Voris because his focus has shifted on defending the faith from those who are non-Catholic and maybe even anti-catholic, to now shedding light on those within the Church who are actively undermining the faith.

It’s not easy to hear that Cardinal so and so has been mishandling money and donating to anti-Catholic organizations or how Bishop so and so has been covering up sex abuse in his diocese, or how Father so and so is going around preaching things that go against traditional Church teaching. I think Michael Voris and those at Church Militant, view corrupt clergy as a bigger threat to our faith than even the most anti-Catholic Christian working to lead people out of the faith and I would agree with wholeheartedly.

Mr Voris appears to have penchant for hyperbole and he does like to stir up outrage. I have yet to see him do a video that is encouraging peace and compassion.
