Is missing a holy day of obligation because of work a sin?

My husband will have to work on a holy day of obligation. He just was offered a new job, and since he will be the ‘new guy,’ he will not be able to select his schdedule for the holidays, to start. He very much wishes to be at mass on a holy day of obligation, and will try to make it–but if he cannot because of his job, would this be considered a mortal sin if he misses?:confused:
