Is missing Mass a mortal sin?

Does missing Mass stop you from being able to receive Communion if you have not yet been to confession? If you are out of town, and it is not “easy” to get to a church (i.e., camping), do you have to go to confession before receiving Communion?

Missing Mass *without just reason *on Sunday or a holy day of obligation is grave matter. Combined with full knowledge and full and free consent of the will, grave matter becomes a mortal sin. If a person has committed a mortal sin by missing Mass without just reason, yes, ordinarily speaking, he should go to confession before receiving Communion.

If a person genuinely has difficulty attending a Mass on Sunday or a holy day of obligation while traveling, he is dispensed from the obligation and does not commit sin by missing Mass. He need not confess this before receiving Communion because this is not a sin.
