Is Missing Mass a Mortal Sin?

Yes, but the NEED for confession is still a personal matter. If one feels the need to spill his confession all over the internet, it is no longer a private matter. Seems self-defeating even to bring it up. Certainly no sacrament has been received.
We should be a little more patient of a candidate who is perhaps a little excited, nervous and wanting to do the right thing, and who is just asking questions, donchathink 🤷

By listening to the situation he presents and applying the teachings of the Church, doncha think? 🤷
+1 and by applying a basic principle of moral interpretation: that we always assume the least burdensome course. By this principle, one must presume there is no sin on the part of the OP, in light of all the information presented.

There are no graces received from confession either. That’s my point.

How does one determine another’s need to go to confession?
The absence of matter to absolve would be one way. If one is not bound to observe a law, one cannot violate the law by not observing it. Since the original poster said that would be the one thing he had to confess…

You mean, in the case of going to confession without even venial sin to confess, of course, right?
If you want to put it that way. I was taught to take responsibility for my actions, whether I’m aware of the gravity or not. This thing about not needing or downplaying confession because of some technicalities bothers me a lot. Why is the Pope stressing confessions and we’re looking for ways to avoid it? (To “weasel and maneuver” as a comedian once put it.) We’re all sinners and if we don’t need forgiveness even for minor transgressions, why bother being Christian?

Now technically maybe the OP didn’t commit any sin at all, but at least he’s aware of the obligation and perhaps he might think he would be too weak to handle it in the future, I don’t know. But I see no problem in asking for some guidance on the matter and on confession in general.
