My mother has been dealing with cancer since her diagnosis in November. I have several friends who have her in their prayers, and I am trying to deal with the emotional roller coaster that this brings to each member of my family. It has worsened my own illness (diabetes and heart problems) to a degree that I am on psychiatric medications. This Friday evening I received work from my sister that my mother’s cancer has spread. I didn’t go out all weekend and physically and mentally felt terrible. I didn’t go to Mass yesterday, but went to see a counselor at the clinic today for help. Does missing mass under these conditions constitute a mortal sin?
