I just heard on the weather network that there is a chance of 10 to 15 cm of snow blowing in tonight and theres a heavy snowfall warning on right now as i’m typing…

I talked to my mom and she doesn’t want to be going anywhere tomorrow because the roads will be slippery and she’s very paranoid about getting into a car accident since she got her new car. The reason being that she has osteoporosis and if she got into even a little fender bender and the airbags went off that would have a huge impact on her bones and could very well be strong enough to cripple her if the fracture was in her spine. I worry about her driving everyday for this reason.

I personally think her new tries should work good on snow and ice but shes still very uneasy about it and doesn’t like driving at all when theres snow, for the possibility of a car slipping and slamming into her.

If we missed mass tomorrow, would we be committing a mortal sin?

You are to make a REASONABLE effort to attend mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation.

Steven,

Do you know of anyone else that could take you to Church? Are there any friends who would be going also?

You would need to make EVERY attempt to make it to Sunday Mass. After IF you cannot attend after making every attempt, then I am sure you can discuss this with a priest and find out what he says.

This is something between you and God, but if your mom is afraid to drive and this is your only way to get there, there is no sin. You need intention to commit sin, and it is not you who is making the decision, so it cannot be a sin for you.

if you can’t get to Mass for a good reason there is no obligation and no sin. If your mother is the driver, she is the best one to judge weather conditions, state of your car etc.

We ended up going after all and the roads were actually pretty good…

Thank you for your help!

Good to see you went!

Locally, I remember us having hurricanes here. As “crazy” I am, I was telling my family we’re going to church prior to the hurricanes hitting us. Well, the hurricanes came and we were without power, trees were knocked down everywhere including on the roads, traffic lights weren’t working, water everywhere, and the sheriff in town basically declared martial law and gave everyone a curfew to stay home or at a shelter so that plan didn’t go too well unfortunitly.
