Is Mormon conversion possible in Utah County?

Mormons are not afraid of Islam. We have good relations with them; just as we cultivate good relations with Catholics or any other faith. BYU has a respectable Arabic and Islamic studies department one of whose objectives is to provide high quality translations into English of ancient Islamic texts in the fields of theology, philosophy, and mysticism. This is true about BYU. In fact, Daniel Peterson is a highly respected Islamic scholar who teaches at BYU. You can also read him on the mormonapologetic site as he converses with antimormons and critics.

I often come across horror stories by former mormons who still live in Utah. They seem to be rather cohesive in their shunning stories. But from my own knowledge, it seems that mormons are a tolerant lot who let people have their own beliefs and religion. There is not much concern in shunning non-mormons or even former mormons in general. Of course, there is always the exception but that is not the fault of the lds church but of the members themselves if they do so.

Yes, thank you. I think that if you are sure of your own faith, you arn’t afraid of being “converted,” or “upstaged” by another religion. Mormons who have a genuine testimony are sure of their faith, and have no fears of any other faith. Suppose a few Mormons in Utah were converted to Islam; It doesn’t worry me any. That is their choice. If they had a genuine testimony in the first place, they wouldn’t have been converted. Those who are so fearful of Islam or some other faith (like many Catholics here for example), that is only a sign of their insecurity in their own faith. If they were sure of themselves, they wouldn’t have any such fears.

Oh, just hang around here for a while, and you will soon hear a lot about the LDS Church from me! 😃

zerinus
I’ve seen some of your posts so I expect to here from you often!!😃
I simply cannot agree with Mormonism. I believe that the whole Mormon religion stands or falls on Joseph Smith There are a lot of reasons why I simply cannot believe him. Not going to get into it here though.

The Catholic Church is not afraid of Islam. There are a few people here at CAF who are. They see what has already been faced by Christianity. Mormons, who are largely ignorant of Christian history, are a bit naive.

Mormonism is true! 😃

I suppose I could agree with you on that.

Well, I have lots of reasons to believe him—the most important of which is the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon contains evidence of its own truth. Once you gain that spiritual witness, the prophetic calling of Joseph Smith becomes obvious fact.
Not going to get into it here though.
Any time you want! 🙂

Wouldn’t it be next-to impossible for a Mormon living in Utah County to convert to a different religion (without moving away)?
Why would he need to move away? What would others Mormon do if he stays?

Mormonism is true!
if it’s true, why was the book of abraham found to be a forgery of an egyptian book of the dead? why are the native americans found to be genetic decendents of asians and not jews? why is your whole faith based on feelings?

the reason mormonism thrived in utah is precisely because it does fare well in a non mormon atmosphere. in fact, the army almost forced your cult to mexico until brigham changed it.

mormanism needs pressure from the community to keep going because it contradicts reason. i grew up in new jersey and never met a mormon there. when i moved to more isolated areas further west, i met plenty.

no catholic with half a brain would ever convert to the fantasy that is mormonism. your testimony is a joke and joe smith was a pervert.

Not fact, but fiction!::dts:

Look I’m Catholic down to my toes and certainly don’t believe in Mormonism, but can we have a little respect here?

Hi Dee Dee King,

Can you please tell me why so many of us ( Christians ) feel the need to talk down to people, rather then with them. It seems to me that these insults that are designed to hurt and or offend, offer very little to the very sensitive topics that are dicussed on this forum.

Sorry for pointing out the sawdust in your eye when I know I have a plank in my own , BUT your post ( in my opinion ) was well below the bar of respect and charity that we christians claim so often.

At any rate,

God bless,
Carl

Thanks Carl, you said it much better than I did. I let my own plank in the eye get in the way!

Depends on the situation. Most cases, they will love bomb the person trying to leave. An endless stream of visits and phone calls.

Depends on where you work. Many workplaces are owned by the Mormon church. Some, you have to be able to pass the yearly exam required to get into their temples, in order to work there. If this is where you are working when you leave mormonism, you also lose your employment.

Many other places are owned by Mormons. Some people would mind their own business and leave you alone.Others would not. If not, the religious harassment can get over whelming. Or, in the case of where I worked once, they opened every workplace mtg with a mormon prayer. Openly talked about how they could proselyte customers. I left.

And some people want out of the mormon culture as much as they want out of the mormon church.

zerinus is not here searching for the truth, he’s here to proselytize; he has a link on his post for mormon faq.

he should have a thick skin by now. i don’t have patience for people who spread lies and try to steer people away from the truth. he’s a big boy, let him deal with what i said.

happy 4th of July!!!

I have learned to ignore folks like you a long time ago, and I don’t see any reason to change my mind now. You can shout until you belly aches. I won’t be hearing your death throws and miserable cries.

zerinus, I hope you one day find your way to the fullness of Truth…

I don’t have any use for uncivilized childish behavior. Comments like that certainly don’t make me think any better of LDS or Joseph Smith both of whom you represent.
