Is Mormonism pro-life or pro-choice?

When does life begin for the LDS?

You know, I’ve been trying to get an answer to this question for a long time. No one on this forum chooses to answer and my visiting Mormon missionaries just shrug their shoulders when I ask. Its such a basic, important question, I’m surprised by the silence. Maybe I’ll start a new thread and ask one more time.

Funny topic. I am not fit to answer your question, but thought I’d make a note:

I am the great great great grandson of two of the Mormon Church’s most idolized founders. No names for my privacy. A buddy’s Mormon wife once was so jazzed to hear that that she called her father. We talked on the phone. He joked that technically I have a blood right (among some strange rules they have) to make divine prophecy! That could be why they hunt us down and baptize our graves even as Catholics. I’ll probably have to be buried in secret. I sometimes wonder if they’re truly baptizing us as Catholics or peeing on our particular graves! They got to my grandpa, will probably get my dad’s grave someday. But not me if I can help it!


Technically, I have a kind of Mormon royalty right (if I were Mormon?) to scream from the pulpit and start a harem or whatever.

I would like to say that my great great great grandfather – one of the highest apostles of their church – was extremely pro-life and anti-abortion back then. I have one of his speeches in archives somewhere. It’s on the web, too. He was railing about how, on the East Coast, people lived in cities and wanted small families. Thus, all sins and abortions were present. He said the government didn’t like Mormons for their belief in massive families and breeding like pro-life rabbits! Etc, etc.

I don’t know the details of their pro-choice philosophies back then and they might resemble a bit like the modern Mormon church position. But, they were generally extremely pro-life, pro-harem, and pro-baby…at least back then. Probably, with city life and the loss of harems, they’ve gone modern and closer to pro-choice/ pro-birth control but their origins were certainly not!

Any Mormon women out there wish to join my Catholic harem? We could make beautiful prophecy together and make Mormons pro-life again!

Hi all! I was just wondering, is Mormonism pro-life or pro-choice? The reason I ask is because I’m taking another look at Mitt Romney. It seems that he’s been flip-flopping on the abortion issue, but he does seem to be a devout Mormon. So, if Mormonism is in fact pro-life, then I think he may truly mean what he says.

Please never say “pro-choice”. People or organisations can be either “pro-life” or “pro-death”. Those who are “pro-death” want to be called “pro-choice” because it sounds good and it doesn’t really show who they are.

Amen! The mormon “church” is not pro-life if they can advise their followers to “pray to the Holy Spirit” for advice on wether or not to commit abortion. Did the Nazis “pray to the Holy Spirit” before they committed genocide? The whole concept creates a grotesque oxymoron. Even if murder is qualified by exceptions, it still remains murder. Saying that the mormon organization is pro-life is simply not true.
