I know that most of what we know about Jesus from the Bible.

But what about his earthly parents?

There’s an exceptional book entitled The Mystical City of God by Venerable Mary of Agreda as seen in her mystic vision, that explains in detail the life of the Jesus and Our Blessed Mother, from Her Immaculate Conception to the Coronation and everything in between.

The Mystical City of God has been “acclaimed by popes, cardinals and theologians” and may be read by all the faithful as there is nothing contrary to the Faith in this highly inspirational book.

Since I’ve read this book, my love and understanding of Our Lord and Blessed Mother has increased exponentially. Nothing quite like it.

Peace.

I remember a “biography” of sorts I had when I was younger. I believe some of the early details of Mary’s life were fleshed out in the Protoevangelicum of James. Could be wrong though.

St Maximus the Confessor - Life of the Virgin, covers pre-Incarnation, childhood to Dormition, and its the earliest complete biography, For the early pre-7th century tradition and historic view, very interesting read. The Saint covers the Protoevangelicum of James and what he claims was believed by a good deal of the early church fathers.

Mary is a mere woman referred to as such by Christ at the wedding in Cana. you must try and understand that she is not the "mother of GOD: as the catholic Doctrine and dogma suggests. God is Spirit, God is not flesh and blood. God is not a man that He would lie.
She was the earthly sinful vessel GOD my Heavenly Father used to place His Son here on earth. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”
To argue she was born without sin is calling God a liar and the love of God is not in you.

What makes Mary full of grace is her acceptance to carry Our Lord and Savior.

Also why would God choose a sinner to carry Christ?

God isn’t like Zeus who picks Danaë to carry Perseus.

Well, I do hope you’re not trying to convert us away from Catholicism. Because insulting people isn’t generally a good way to win hearts and minds.

hands up all those who think the Biblical quote “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” doesn’t mean Mary???
There are none perfect no not one??? does this include Mary??
what about
Unless a man is born again he shal not enter into the Kingdow of God?? does that mean Mary too?? Ye must be born again.
At this point I am not attempting to draw any away, but rather to read your Bible and measure your beliefs with the TRUTH…
For ye will know the TRUTH and the TRUTH will set you free.
it is about a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, as it is written, “I never knew you” not about religiousness.

Let’s back up a little ,who is or what is God, than and only than can you begin to ask who Mary is. Yes God is spirit truth love God has been called the Devine essence, but as Christians we believe He is three persons all in one person, one being we refer to those as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. If God is Father who is Mother, because their is a Son,as well as a Spirit.
The messiah was to come from the seed of David,or flesh of David, not just the spirit of David, May was that flesh or as the bible referred the seed of David. Jesus did not just come through Mary, Jesus Had to come From David’s seed. Mary Was the mother of Jesus, the second person of the trinity, if that’s true than we must accept that Jesus came from the flesh of Mary and the Spirit of the Father. That I believe is we’re we must start,if we want to ask Who is Mary, was she THE mother of God or not,did God forgive her sins and when,Mary called God Her savoir before he son had died on the cross before He was born.

We also get a lot about Mary and Joseph from the Protoevangelium of James.

Much can also be gleaned from the writings of Mystic Anne Catherine Emmerich.

**Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! The way the early church fathers (bishops, mostly) understood the “Father” and the “Son” had nothing to do with who was the mother.

In scripture, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are revealed to us as divine persons who constitute one God. The relationship of two of the persons in the Trinity is explained to us in human terms, as one Person being and called Father, and the second Person being and called the Son. The Son was “begotten” from the Father, which is a word that nobody understands, except to point out emphatically that there was never a time when there was a Father without a Son. They always existed together, with the Holy Spirit.**

For those of faith, there is no doubt that Mary was the mother of Jesus, who was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Now, to address the question, certainly most of what’s known about Mary and Joseph comes from the Bible. Nothing that contradicts the Bible would be accepted as part of our faith.

Whatever the protoevangelium says, it is not scripture, it does not have the authority of being inspired by God. There is certainly a tendency in Jewish literature of Biblical times and after Christ to speculate on gaps in the scriptural account or what appears to be contradictions in scripture. And, the Jewish motivation is, accepting scripture as inspired, to harmonize scripture. So, it is no surprise to me to hear that there were writings in post-Christian times that attempted to do that, to perhaps explain the same sort of thing – things that were difficult to understand directly from scripture.

But, we need to follow the magisterium, the teaching authority of the Church, in such matters. One of the general principles might be stated that scripture doesn’t explain everything that picques our curiosity. We should not confuse ourselves with with speculation. For me, I wouldn’t spend any time trying to speculate about the hidden years of Jesus.

The Word became flesh and lived with man in the world the Eternal Word had created, the Word was God. The messiah, The Word would come from the line of DAVID.
This is story of man’s. interaction with his true God. Jesus was all God all man,the eternal everlasting to everlasting with the frail man of His creation,
Mary was a young girl chosen by her creator from the foundation of the world to give LIFE to the world of God. Mary could have refused it was her choice.Through Mary ,Jesus became fully human, and remained fully Devine. That yes from Mary should tell us everything we really need to know. About her.
Restated in a more common language trying to be understood, I do believe God has given us the ability to know Him just as did his mother.
