The question is how does it rotate around the equator without hitting everything else? Although the rays would hit unevenly, they would hit everything. Additionally, even if you accept that somehow the light doesn’t hit everything, how do you explain the differing amount of light, and the fact that it changes, i.e. at the equator you get 12 hours day, 12 hours night, while north of the arctic circle, and south of the antarctic circle, you get 24 hours day, 24 hours night (depending on the season, themselves another issue with this). There is only one pole in flat earth model. Sun, Moon, and Stars rotate across the Earth daily on the Equator.
I believe in conspiracy. The purpose is to undermine the importance of Earth and make it look like “just another planet” with no significance. Making people feel worthless, it gives Satan greater power to rule over them.
There are just far too many issues with the idea, and the bible isn’t a geology textbook, and contains several minor errors and inconsistencies that make a literalistic look at passages that have been traditionally accepted as allegorical, problematic. I think, and I apologize in advance for giving my unsolicited advice, you set yourself up for a crisis of faith when you take such a hardline interpretation of scripture. The Church has always interpreted it as being inspired by God, but never the literal truth given to God by man (That was Christ).
