Is my confession valid if I remembered a sin during confession?

I remembered a sin while the priest was counseling me during confession after I had confessed my sins and I tried to interrupt him to tell about it but I guess he didn’t hear me because he kept on going. After that, I didn’t try to interrupt him again. So I’m not sure if I intentionally withheld that sin after the initial attempt to interrupt him because I just kind of froze or something.

I don’t know because my memory’s a bit fuzzy right now of that moment because I was nervous and when you’re nervous, you get an adrenaline rush and once that nervousness goes away you start to forget. So was my confession valid?

P.s. sorry for the rambling I’m just trying to remember this to the best of my ability.

I’d say it’s forgiven if you intended to confess it and are truly repentant of it. God knows the intention of your heart.

Your confession was valid, just bring up the sin at your next Confession. If the priest is counseling us after we confessed our sins, we aren’t obliged to interrupt him to bring up another sin if we happen to remember it at that time, especially if we are nervous or something. Here is an article from Jimmy Akin on the matter.

I write down my sins on a piece paper and read from the list so I do not forget anything.

If you actually aren’t sure whether you did something intentionally, you could not have done anything intentionally by definition. You didn’t intentionally withhold the sin. Therefore you aren’t accountable. This exact concept is mentioned in the pdf I linked. Not saying you’re necessarily scrupulous, but it’s a good thing for anyone to read, scrupulosity or no.

I always end a confession with “I’m sorry for these and all the sins I forgot to confess.” Unless you neglected to mention that you killed someone during your lunch break, you should be good.

Unless it was a mortal sin, I wouldn’t worry about it. We are only obligated to confess mortal sins. If it was mortal, than you should confess the sins you already confessed plus the fact that you made an invalid Confession, although you did not set out to make one and of course, confess the mortal sin. This is just to be sure you are in Grace. Remember a mortal sin has three requirements: that it’s of grave matter, that you know it’s of grave matter and that you fully consent to doing it anyway.

That is when ones confession was invalid due to intentionally withholding a mortal sin (then yes the person would confess the mortal sins that were confessed and the one that was withheld in a way that invalidated the confession - and that one withheld it…)

It can be though that the OP did not do such -but that the Priest “took over” and the person was not able to interrupt him… though he intended and tried to confess all mortal sins.

See Jimmy Akin here: jimmyakin.com/2009/12/what-if-you-suddenly-remember-in-confession.html

Read what Jimmy wrote there and if it fits what he is noting then like other forgotten mortal sins (if it was indeed mortal) they would mention it in the next confession.

I tried to interupt him once but I don’t know if he had heard me so that’s why I wrote what I did in my originsl question.
