The priest forgets to ask me to say the act of contrition?
 
The priest forgets to ask me to say the act of contrition?
The only thing the priest has to do is give you the words of absolution. Assuming you aren’t knowingly withholding any mortal sins, and you are sorry for your sins and make an effort to not sin again.
 
Reciting in the confessional the act of contrition is NOT necessary for the valid celebration of this sacrament. You may be at peace.
OP, Don Ruggero is also a Catholic priest, so he knows what he’s talking about. Be at peace.

But I wanted to add that I’m fairly certain that the Act of Contrition during Confession is meant to arouse our sorrow and also to make it very clear to Father that we have such sorrow and that we have a firm purpose of amendment. The act can be an aid to his making a judgment.

If my understanding is correct, then Father can make a determination of those factors without our act of contrition. Likewise, the very fact that we’re there can help to arouse our sorrow.

But again, these are things I’m “fairly certain” of. I can’t speak authoritatively.
