Is my confession valid?

I went to confess my sins today before mass. After I finished my list the priest started speaking. About halfway through I started feeling dizzy. The priest was further and further away and in the end I didn’t know what he was saying. He told me that the confession was over and I got up, only to smash right into the floor.

When I woke up the priest was helping me out of the confessional. I asked him if I had understood the penance correcly, and he said “yes”.

Is my confession valid? I have had much torment before this confession, and I really don’t know what to do if I have to go through it again.

Also, I had to leave mass early today. There were no busses so I had to order a taxi. But I misjudged the length of mass. So I only attended some of it and missed communion. Is this a mortal sin? I intended to be there for the whole mass, but I had to get home. Could have walked home, though, but that takes about 1-1,5 hours. Since it was in the middle of the night and I banged my head pretty hard in the confessional, I didn’t dare to walk.

My friend, it sounds to me as though you are being very hard on yourself.
Jesus came to save us! He loves us! He wants us to be in full communion with Him!

If the priest confirmed that he heard you, gave you penance and absolved you, then yes, every single sin up to the moment is forever gone.

As for leaving Mass “early” - exceptions are allowed for serious reasons - such as illness which it sounds like you had after hitting your head. If in doubt, ask to speak to the priest about it. Surely, his pastoral advice would be better than that of anyone on here who doesn’t know you or the details of your situation.

The priest did say he had absolved you, so you shouldn’t worry.

Ask the priest about this penance you are concerned about next time…he can correct any confusion you have or he can just dismiss the penance altogether if it is too rough. There should be an ending to a penance. Also, you may have misunderstood or he was not exactly clear. He may have meant it as advice, like say the rosary once a day. It was not penance, but spiritual direction.

and it can be any priest…does not have to be the one who gave you the “penance” if he is not available or you want to go to another priest.

That makes sense. It might be the advice he gave. He is a very good priest and I doubt that he would give me a penance that would last forever. Like I said, I was very far gone at the end, so I might have mixed up the penance with advice. I think he told me to pray a certain number of a prayer first. Later he told me to do something daily.

I’ll just do the best I can and address it the next time. It doesn’t hurt me to pray ever day
