Is my position on this acceptable for a Roman Catholic?

Always remember it is not the church itself an error but the men who run it. If we all give in we cannot win. May God guide you down the path of light.

God Bless

After a year, I find myself reading these posts.

I’m actually leaning toward agnosticism, or maybe non-denominational Christianity. I find that the Church isn’t really accepting of all groups…
“All groups” meaning who?

the Church accepts every race, nationality, size, age, political leaning, and male and female. Mary is the Queen of Heaven. Yesterday we celebrated the African martyrs. So it’s not just old white men in the Church - anyone can be a Catholic, if they believe what Catholics believe, and live according to Catholic teachings.

What it doesn’t accept is heresy, false religion, or the notion of “anything goes.”

The church is not accepting of LGBT groups, accepts but does not hold women equal to men, etc.

The church is not accepting of LGBT groups,
Yes she is, the Church is welcoming to all people.

Who is the greatest being after God again, a man or a woman?

Also strong necro bump. Usually the mods like you to make a new thread if you would like to have a discussion.

Mary is a woman - she is the Queen of Heaven. So - yeah, maybe “equal” is not the right word, here … 😉

LGBT is a kind of behaviour; it is not a person, or a group of people. If people choose to commit sin, they need to go to Confession, but they can still be Catholics - and if they want to be good Catholics, all they have to do is stop committing sin. 🙂

jesus and the Church that He founded the Catholic Church is not accepting of sin because it is deadly.

For a Catholic who truly believes the infallible teachings of the Catholic Church, this is not a question of “forcing your beliefs” onto somebody, it’s a matter of helping others avoid a serious mistake that will cause them great pain and suffering (both in this life and the next). It’s also a matter of displeasing our Blessed Lord by endorsing activities that violate natural law (of which, He is the author).

“Not forcing my beliefs on someone” is actually a very selfish stance for a Catholic to take and is inconsistent both with love for our God and for our neighbour.
But, in a country where there is religious pluralism, that would mean that other religions could pass laws based on their religious beliefs. If I can outlaw gay marriage because it is against my religious beliefs than Jews could outlaw the consumption and sale of pork because it is against their religious belief.

If we want to pass laws based on religion we need to be prepared for that to apply to other religions. Or we need to admit that we do NOT want to have to follow laws based on say, Islam, and therefore prefer a secular system of laws.

I think that Jews, Christians, and Muslims could stand united on a law restricting sex to male and female, lawfully married to each other. It was not really all that long ago that we did - and no one was calling for Sharia law, nor for Jewish dietary laws to become legally enforceable.

I firmly believe that marriage is between a man and a woman. However, I do not believe it is the right of any religions group (whether it be Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, etc.) to enforce their beliefs via laws/legislation. I think that same-sex marriage should be legalized at the civil levels, but it should never be accepted by the Roman Catholic Church.

Can I hold this belief?
The question you have is this: does the secular world have a duty to uphold a moral issue, or not?

It may be simplistic, but read the following:

“I firmly believe that murder is a terrible thing. However, I do not believe it is the right of any religions group (whether it be Catholic, Protestant, Muslim, etc.) to enforce their beliefs via laws/legislation. I think that murder should be legalized at the civil levels, but it should never be accepted by the Roman Catholic Church.”

Both gay marriage and murder are moral issues. Why should the secular society support one and not the other? And please do not simply respond that gay marriage doesn’t hurt anyone; any immoral act hurts not only the perpetrator, but also society.

Gay marriage is supposedly about “love”. God gave us our sexuality, and set up the rules for how that sexuality is to be expressed. The Church upholds God’s gift by saying that the ends of marriage are the procreation of children (which is an oxymoron in “gay marriage”) and the good of the spouses. And the good of the spouses is not obtained by the misuse of their sexuality.

When any religious community chooses to condemn other religious communities for their differing Christian beliefs while condemning these same Christian communities to hell this is an abomination to god, abuse, blatant disrespect to God and Jesus, not to mention not ordained of God.
When a religious communities’ ministry forbids marriage amongst their divorces followers, single followers as well as their own ministry, this is not ordained of God, blasphemous and an affront to both God and Jesus.
When any religious community commits and supports idolatry by residing in a Christian bar on the grounds of the house of the lord- this is idolatry of the worst kind, blasphemous, an affront to both God and Jesus as well as not ordained of God.
When any religious community supports such practices whose roots are of pagan origin such as the use of fermented wine in religious services, Neo-pagan rooted traditions such as Halloween. Not to mention Pagan idyllic rooted traditions such as Saturnalia which involve the decking of idols such as trees- this is idolatry of the worst kind, blasphemous, not ordained of god as well as an affront to God.
When any religious community views women, children and minorities as little more than brainless second class citizens and property, this is not ordained of God, blasphemous and an affront to both God and Jesus.
When any community makes and supports man made laws not ordained of god, this is blasphemous, covetous, and an affront to both Jesus and God.

The bible is clear on the sin of bowing down to Idolatry:
Thou shalt have no other gods before me, Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth. Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me and showing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.Little children, keep yourselves from idols, Amen, for they that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry and neither be ye idolaters, as [were] some of them; as it is written.
The Bible is also clear on the sin of Blasphemy:
Whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit never has forgiveness, but is guilty of an eternal sin. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has spurned the Son of God, and has profaned the the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? 🙂

The difference is that in murder one person is forcing their morality, or lack there of, on another. They are effecting someone else. In gay marraige no one is forcing someone to be gay married. Both parties are consenting. The general idea is your rights end where another’s nose begins. Gay marriage does not infringe on anyone that doesn’t WANT to be gay married.

Divorce/remarriage is a moral issue as well. ARe all those that think gay marriage should be illegal also in favor of making remarriage illegal? Or do we recognize that we shouldn’t hold those with different beliefs to the standards of our own Church?

Ending a life is completely different from two people of the same gender marrying. Ending a life outside of self-defense is objectively wrong, but two people of the same gender is not wrong at all.
