My wife was baptized in a small protestant church outside the state we live in when she was 16 or 17. She became a catholic when she was 20. She told the director of baptisms that she had been baptized before, but could not remember what kind of church it was, only that it was a small bible type church. The director told her that she better get baptized again. She was then told by the priest that she did not need to confess any sins prior to her Catholic baptism. However, this priest did not know that she had been baptized before in this small bible church.

My wife wants to know. Is she clear of these sins prior to her Catholic baptism, or should she go to confess them?

Dear Johnny,

If your wife has gone to Confession since he entrance into the Catholic Church her sins have been forgiven. However, she does need to mention them in Confession. She owes the Lord this act humility in which she can express her gratitude for His forgiveness and her sorrow within the sacrament.
