I live in Indonesia. Just last week 3 churches (catholic and protestant chuch) and police station at another city (Surabaya) were bombed and there were victims from the bombing. Surabaya has been stated as dangerous, and roads and schools are closed because the police is looking for the terrorisr group.
My city is the country’s capital (Jakarta), and now a thorough measurement has been implemented also as a preventive action. Churches are being guarded by the police and so on. There are false threat also about bombs at some of the chuches in Jakarta, which makes me feel even scared to go.
My question is : is it a sin to not attending Mass in this kind of situation? I know that the terror was happening at other cities, but a lot of people now feel the fear of going to public places, not to mention churches
And also please pray for our country. We need a lot of prayers.
Update :I have consulted my pastor, and he said that as long as the church was guarded, there should be no obstacles for us to receive God’s grace in the form of communion. And also another pastor said, since the last week incident took several lives as martyrs (several men who was in charge for the church security, block the terrorist and thus blowing himself with the bomb), it is a waste not to honor his sacrifice by being afraid. So I agree with the pastor. We need to honor him by still going.
