I don’t plan to use it for fraudulent purposes or to steal someone’s identity but is getting a fake ID in order to buy alcohol a sin? If drinking itself isn’t a sin, is it a sin to lie in order to circumvent the unjust drinking law which was passed by Protestants? While I usually get a little bit buzzed, I never binge drink or otherwise drink “in excess,” which St. Paul condemns.

I just registered with the Selective Service. Apparently I’m old enough to be drafted into the next major conflict but not old enough to hoist a pint with my buddies (which I did plenty of over in England with no adverse effects).

Yes, getting a fake ID for the purpose of circumventing a just law is morally problematic (and regulating the age at which a person can buy alcohol is a just law). The Church requires citizens to follow all just laws of their society. It is also problematic to nurse the attitude that a law must be unjust because it was passed by Protestants and because it requires an 18-year-old man to register for the draft but not to drink until he’s 21.
