Is online dating advisable?

Completely absurd. God’s omniscience does not mean he has planned out our entire lifes for us, so I would agree with one small point, God may not plan someone’s death. But by the same logic, then God does not necessarily plan who we are to marry either. There is not necessarily one “soulmate” out their destined for each of us who is to be our spouse. There are probably many, many people out there one could end up being happy with as a spouse, have a loving marriage with, and receive all the sacramental graces of matrimony through. And any one of them may fulfill God’s plan just fine. Your argument that God has one woman planned for us smacks of a protestant pre-destination argument.

Finally, the implication that one should not remarry after the death of a spouse is completely wrong.
This is a good response. 👍

The OP seems to be caught up in pre-desination-ism, which is definately not Catholic.

Who said that God has planned our entire lives?

I have done my revision. I can’t say this with 100% certainty but there is reason for me to believe that God has prepared a spouse for each of us. Of course, even 2 pagan couples can say that they have been “happily” married.

A spouse is a gift from God. Getting married to the right spouse, that is, accepting God’s gift matters (a lot).
Finally, the implication that one should not remarry after the death of a spouse is completely wrong.
So who said that one should not remarry after the death of a spouse? Saying that death does not fall under God’s original plan does not mean that people can’t die or that if someone dies, he or she can’t go to heaven. If you agree that death does not fall under God’s originally plan, then the same should hold true for remarriage. (If a != b and b != c .: a != c.) That does not mean that people can’t remarry. St. Paul advised the believers in Corinth about remarriage.

If by remarrying you mean as a result of death, sorry, I don’t think that falls under God’s plan.
Sir, your logic is very difficult to follow. This is just one example.

I met my husband on eHarmony and our first date lasted 5 hours because our personalities and interests matched like puzzle pieces. We knew we were perfect for each other. 14 months after our first date, we got married and we are very happy! Online dating is nothing like it was 10 years ago, when the stereotype was that only society’s rejects went. Everyone is online now.

It’s difficult to follow cuz you make it that way. It’s the same logic I used on the other thread to point out that divorce doesn’t fall under God’s original plan. That doesn’t mean that one who is divorced can’t go to heaven.

God does not will death. Remarriage is only allowed when a spouse dies. Death is a result of sin and sin doesn’t fall under God’s original plan. It’s only logical that neither does remarriage falls under God’s original plan cuz there can’t be remarriage without death.
The logic isn’t complicated.

It’s how I met my wife. I was in Texas planning to move to Alabama and she was already living there. Now we’re married with a baby on the way.

Define “online dating”.

My opinion?

Using an online dating site as a way to find people, being able (to some extent) to pre-screen characteristics and marital status ahead of time = a good idea.

Using an online dating site as a way to avoid real interaction, having an entire relationship online, leaping straight into dating before meeting in person and becoming friends = a bad idea

🤷

I’ve met several people, male and female, after first finding them online. It is my hope that, someday, perhaps one of those (male) friendships will turn into a relationship. Why should stumbling into someone online be any different then stumbling into them at church??
This is so amusing, that this old thread got resurrected!!

One of the male friendships I made here on the CAF - right about the time I was posting in this thread originally - did, indeed, turn into a dating relationship…leading to engagement, me moving 1000 miles from home, marriage…and we’re expecting our first child any day now.

👍

God can do great things!!! :extrahappy:

Nice!

I used Match.com about 5 years ago and met my now husband. We have a 1 year old.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with online dating. It’s just another way to meet people.

I don’t find anything wrong with online dating 🙂

This thread is 2 and a half years old; don’t wake up old threads.

God is telling you something! Maybe an answer to a prayer?

I’m against it because it can turn out to be failures.
7 of my 9 ex-girlfriends are from internet dating.

I’m going to venture to say that if you had 7 ex girlfriends in 2 years, it osnt online dating that’s the problem.
I had that many ex’s in that period when I was looking for my husband. I would move on as soon as I saw it wasn’t going to work out.

Doesn’t mean anything really. High standards are not a bad thing.

Yea it is. If you can’t tell there’s a problem before you get to bf/gf status SEVEN times in two years, the radar isn’t working well.
